Post subject: Convenient Windowed Mode Bug Posted: Sun Apr 22, 2007 6:13 am |

Haha...
... this accidentally happened, unfortunately I couldn't play it when it looked like this.
My game resolution was set to the native resolution of my monitor -- however this has never happened before.
That window size is the same size as the Silkroad banner image that comes up before the game starts...
Maybe... just maybe this was the result of the createwindow failing ... just this once... but i doubt the code is that sloppy... hahaha....
 [/img]
You know -- i really really really wish you guys would let us play Silkroad in windowed mode - It would make it easy to do AIM and other things at the same time...

I discovered my issues were related to the lack of a "Windows" key on my keyboard... i managed to get it assigned to my right shift key... but i wish my customizer would yield enough to let me use a more useless key... like pause...

Yeah - you need to have a "windows key" on your keyboard. I heard in Windows Media center edition of Windows XP its assigned to media player. Things like that can be undone - find someone who is computer-savvy and they should be able to find it.
I could possibly write a program to do this - All it has to do is find the Silkroad window and then sent the appropriate WM_KEYDOWN messages with the proper key kodes (VK_START mihte be that start button...). However it is quite notable that games like silkroad like to hide their process Id and stuff... so it might be hard.
Oh - if you don't like that XP visual style... then try this one: I made it myself...
Oh and I did remove just about all the icons from my desktop last time because I just didn't feel the need to show what was there... I did that kind of out of paranoia...
This time i realize i really don't have anything to hide
THis took me like 5 hours to make... Most people don't like my font.
I used ResEdit and I have owned StyleXP for like ... for ever and ever...

Hit "ctrl + alt + del" to bring up the task manager.
Click on the "processes" tab.
Find "ehtray.exe" and right click on it, end process tree, and ok.
Now the shortcut works.

I know now that you don't need StyleXP to get custom styles - there's also WindowsBlinds (non-free) which probably has an editor 1000x better than ResEdit.

Wow you're awesome... good job.
You could probably find it in msconfig on the "Startup" tab... listed as "ehtray.exe" (I have no idea if msconfig exists in Windows Vista).
Open msconfig by doing Start->Run->type "msconfig"-> <press enter>
- once again - i dunno if you can do the Run command in vista.

It might actually be on the "Services" tab with some wierd name... I should hope not... because that means you might be disabling some other useful shortcut keys... all that just to get windowed mode... but probably more worth it than some of the useless shortcuts on the keyboard...

And ... you're an IE user?...
Quote: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,125772-page,3/article.html#PC World - The 25 Worst Tech Products of all Time 8. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (2001) Full of features, easy to use, and a virtual engraved invitation to hackers and other digital delinquents, Internet Explorer 6.x might be the least secure software on the planet. How insecure? In June 2004, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) took the unusual step of urging PC users to use a browser--any browser--other than IE. Their reason: IE users who visited the wrong Web site could end up infected with the Scob or Download.Ject keylogger, which could be used to steal their passwords and other personal information. Microsoft patched that hole, and the next one, and the one after that, and so on, ad infinitum. To be fair, its ubiquity paints a big red target on it--less popular apps don't draw nearly as much fire from hackers and the like. But here's hoping that Internet Explorer 7 springs fewer leaks than its predecessor.
I'm very very proud NOT to be an IE user... And I love firefox because of my plugins...

Opera is the best browser. Faster than any other, more secure than any other, the only standards-compliant browser available for Windows. Any plugins that I found useful in Firefox were already built in to Opera. Plus it takes up less than half the ram and a quarter of the disk space. Firefox is failure of a browser.

I didn't like the default settings of Opera though, make sure you mess with the settings before you give up on it.
