Hi,
My screen freezes up. Happening a lot but now I have no ideas what is going on. Been trying differnt things for months now. Have tried reading for what could be the problem, but I just don't know and ran out of ideas.
I have updated my directx, the video drivers, sound drivers, chipset.
I've also used memory test, ram is good.
I've heard that game using c++ has some serious memory leak problems which Joymax has never addressed or fixed.
Computer stats.
Asus G1 Notebook
Core 2 7200 (2 ghz)
2 gig ram
gForce 7700 512 MB
XP Media Edition
Intel 945 Chipset.
Realtek HD audio drivers
Video drivers, used the stock came with comp, 97.94, 158.22, 165.01, 97.44. All had the same results.
When my screen freezes, I have to use taskmaster to forcibly shut down Silkroad. And 50% of the time, screen is gone to trash. Res is 640 480, colors are all wrong, 8 bit. Can't chanage.
Other times after, it Silkroad will say cannot find a directx video card.
And other times, I just restart sro and it will freeze up at a later time.
I noticed it freezes up the most in Jangan, DW, during a job war and when I'm teleporting.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Things I've tried:
Different Graphics Drivers, Sound drivers.
Tried running with no other programs other than SRO
Used memory programs to resolve memory leak issues
Using different resolutions, 1280 800, 1440 900 and 1680 1050
Punching my face
Everything has failed...

Stop spamming about your pvp sessions/close srf while you play?
Just an idea.

Sometimes when I run firefox it makes my graphics go haywire while I play.
Same for like 6 people I know. There was a solution to it on the official forums, morningdew actually did something about it and stickied it.

I had the same problem, and still do with ksro. (Haven't able to play ksro for awhile cuz of this, keeps freezing at the login screen.) Isro sometimes freezes up too. Mine was the fans, and also the hard drive. I checked the status of my hard drive, and noticed had several disk errors and my hard drive is going bad . Going to call dell today and order another hard drive, thank god still have warrenty on it. .

If it was overheating it would be on everything not just making SRO crash. You would be getting graphical glitches everywhere.

most memory programs will screw silkroad up, i constantly got freeze ups and complete crashes on my pc right after i built it..
i tried pretty much everything you did and nothing but it hasn't happened alot for months now, i get light freezing mostly when entering towns or heavily populated areas.
But thats mostly down to lack of memory, your problem with your screen gone to trash does sounds alot like overheating.
And although you've already said the readings are ok... i'd still hook up a fan blowing of your laptop to rule it out completely as your sensor may just be faulty.only other thing i can think of is either driver conflicts or software/hardware related, i'd try searching the net for similar issues with your os/graphics card/audio for people with same problems.
similar issues happen with quake engine based games and people often find ways of fixing them with merely down grading their drivers.
good luck

Tried one more thing and ended in complete disaster.
I used registry mechanic to clean up the computer, see if that would help.
Nope.
Crash, won't even boot up into Windows, last good configuration, safe mode, debugging mode, nothing works.
Dam, won't be trying that again.
Well a complete reformat and reinstall, maybe this clean install will show something different.
Well hopefully have some luck....

Make sure you backup the registry before you edit it . You have to really careful with the registry. The main thing I did with the registry, was go to start up tray and take out alot of things. It made it much faster when logining in, plus closed alot of unneccesary background processes.
I opened task manager and looked at all the processes under my account name and looked up all the ones I didn't what they were with google. Then took them out in the registry and everything is fine .

It's the intel chips that **** up, this shit happend to my silkroad too. the newer driver versions don't work with silkroad and crash it. I had to reformat and not touch anything in order to get it to work. But this is just me.

Back and running.
Installed the latest chipset driver for 945 express
Nvidea drivers from tweaksrus.com, version 97.92
Installed the latest drivers for my intel wireless, only drivers, no software
Latest realtek HD audio drivers
So far, I haven't gotten screen freeze. Do get DC when I scroll back to town, but that seems to be a common occurance in this poorly written game.
Haven't done any PvP yet, so hmm, we'll see.

I actually have about the same configuration as you, i think it's either the mobo or the graphics card.. Dunno though.
