I am thinking of devolpoing personal add-ons for the Silkroad Online client. I enjoyed using them in World of Warcraft.

My first one would be an in game instant message system for the game whispers. You could invite players to convos etc.

I am also thinking of developing a new GUi for the gameplay. It would be helpful to have specific interfaces for certain builds.

Let me know what you think.

Thats the thing, I am wondering whether it comes under their client editing based laws. I know for sure that it wouldn't cause damage to the game, and all add-ns would be external, so no-editing of the client would need to be done.

I tried to contact them a while ago, they seem to have a tendency to not listen to anything you say... >.>

See, I wouldn't physically edit the game client. I would maybe add an extra folder to the game folder and then run an injection script.

Technically I am not going to damage or corrupt the game, but we shall just see what happens I guess.

I just hope Joymax will let me, because I am keen on getting things like this going.

I hate to sound like a hacker, but there is always to bypass process based security.

I have emailed Joymax again to ask them, lets just wait and see what they say.

Yes there is, it launches at the beginning. You try messing with the game at assembly stage and it will crash.

Well if you can and are allowed to make some add-ons it would be cool...the add-ons for WoW were one of my favorite features of the game.

Yea it will say something about installing a non corrupt version or something....just leave well enough alone sir

If you try and battle gameguard..make sure you got the client saved on your computer for quick fresh installs

There was a wonderful working injector before Euro-Update...

If Joymax doesn't want us pk2 editing (morningdew specifically said not to pk2 edit 9th degree equip), then they surely won't want us doing any other client modifications like that. If gameguard is actually working properly, I'm sure it won't differentiate between clean hacks and malicious hacks.

A hack is a hack.

Nope. Gameguard does not exist. A simple test to see whether it does is after the game loaded, check your tray at the bottom right of the screen for a blue shield. The thing about the installing a non corrupt version is just a simple CRC check that's built in the client.

Well technically the user's system could be set to always hide the GameGuard icon in the system tray. You can specify certain icons that you don't want to show. You could always look in the process list in Task Manager to see if gameguard is running there. I don't know if the ACTUAL process would be called "gameguard" or maybe "gg" or "nprotect" or something else, but it should be similar if it was actually running.

I know my client does show the GameGuard splash screen as the SRO client is loading. Maybe Joymax uses GG to do a quick check (maybe the CRC check?) and then closes it before the client loads the rest of the way? I didn't notice any process for it come up in my process list.

He's not talking about modifying the client, he's talking about reading and writing to the network packets. That's how the bot progs work, and they're all doing just fine, botting right along as if JMax isn't even watching. :D

Nope. The system tray would always show the blue shield unless the user specifically set it to not to show. The process that Gameguard creates is GameMon.exe, and if it does appears, it disappears after a second to prevent tempering. There is no point having a CRC check in the beginning of the game because no data would be changed during that time. I believe that Joymax put the logo there just for a placebo effect. Probably because they are unwilling to pay iNCA.

Okay, I hate to say this but you are wrong. I have spent many years being known as a hacker and I was banned from WoW for it.

I no longer hack but of course my knowledge sits their. The GameGuard does run, and yes there is no point of running a CRC check.

First of all, who the hell uses CRC these days? It was cracked ages ago, if they were to run any form of checksum algorithm checks it would be MD5 or maybe, and I mean maybe, SHA-1.

There is a point for checking its checksum value, because people can tamper with the .exe launcher and edit strings to suit their needs, the recompile the game executable.

As for editing memory regions, it is so simple to stop, and I am willing to program an anti-hack for JoyMax to do it. Although I doubt they will accept it.

Also, when the hell has a process had to show itself. Your telling me, that if a Trojan is installed on the computer, that it runs as a visible application and not a process.

For instance, if you have AVG installed, you only have 1 visible application, but many instance processes running. Go through your process list and look for the amount of items containg "avgas" or "avgav".

I shall shutup now.

Nah, if gameguard does run. Try running another game with gameguard see if it starts. If GG exists for SRO, the other game shouldn't be allowed to run because GG would detect another instance of itself; however, I often run other games such as MapleStory while I'm stalling on SRO.

I do agree the point about the CRC check, though, it is easy to bypass, but most online games does have a primitive CRC check built in.

why not some games perhaps not harm anything to SRO, so the GG alow you to stall and run SRO even if you play another game .. you think about it ?

Good point. It's certainly true that an application or process doesn't have to show itself in order to run. Rootkits won't show up in the process list if they are done correctly.

I can load Silk Road, then load MU Online on the same PC, which both use Game Guard. Something is not working on the Silk Road GameGuard version.
And I dont think JM will accept you to help them. Even though their hacking prevention software is majorly flawed, they seem either too proud or too dumb to accept any outside help.
