How do I go about setting up my own silkroad server?

Whether it be on this PC or a dedicated server.

So how do people go about setting up the WoW private servers then? Did WoW release one or was there one made? Isn't there a way to do the same with SRO.

There are a lot of WOW private servers but no SRO ones. THey have to be hand coded and that takes time.

From my understanding so far

How Private Servers Exist

Private servers have 2 parts. The Emulator, this is just the basic program the shell. The second part is the database.

Private servers have been brought to court numerous times before. Most famously are Lineage 2 and Rose Online Private servers.

From Court rulings, as long as the emulator is written completely ground up by these so called "developers," its ok. Means none of the coding can be from Joymax's source codes.

Most of the software you see for running your own Private Server are just emulators.

You cannot have a functioning server without the database. The emulator is the easy part. The database is the hard part. The database has all the information for skills, monsters, how everything in the game behaves.

None of this information can be from Joymax's database

You still use the same client though most often. This means as Joymax produces new updates, the "developers" have all the data they really need from the client itself.

Why Private Servers Shut Down

Occasionally we hear about some Private servers being shut down.

There are 2 things.

The making of the Emulator and the Database is VERY ILLEGAL. These so called "developers" use packet sniffers to study how the game servers run.

If you read the agreements you have to agree to when you make accounts you'll see there are specific points about emulators and the use of packet sniffers.

Basic Point its against the agreement to use packet sniffers to intercept data between client and server. Use of 3rd party programs is illegal, whether to cheat or to steal information.

While the coding of these emulators and databases may be written completely by the "developer," he is using data illegally from the retail servers.

Now a lot of people can setup Private Servers. But don't know how. They download a emulator. Like I said before emulator is just an emulator. They either have to download a database for it or they have to make their own.

For Example: There have been a few WoW Private Servers shut down because the person used a leaked version of Blizzard's database, these people are morons.

PROFITING OFF OF COPYRIGHTED INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Profit: People sometimes charge money to play on their server.

Clearly using another companies Copyrighted Software (Client) to make profit off of it is Illegal. Again, STUPID People.

Some people try to use Donations. Most often it can be proven that these donations are in fact Profits. Again, STUPID PEOPLE.

nice info thanks :D ^^^

every mmorpg private server is laggy even worse than the actual game.

i use to play WoW but quite it cuz it was gay, then i tried the best WoW private server it was like super laggy.

so itz really a waste to make a private server, unless ur super rich and can afford to make a company and have really big servers, and good connections.

For WoW

They have done pretty well for lag and stability.

The problem is the database. Database is just so massively huge.

Play with 1000-2000 players with no lag and stability (Ascent Emulator)

But you have horrible bugs. Skills not working. Talents that don't work. Skills that don't work right, talents that don't work right.

Bosses not using skills, instances are bugged. People able to solo 40 man instances.

Its all screwed up.

Play with few bugs, functioning instances (Mangos)

But you have server instability and some lag.

Its pretty lag free as long as the server population remains below 300.

Currently Mangos (written in C++) has memory leak issues. These are being currently addressed.

Guess what else has memory leak issues?

You guessed it! Silkroad Online has horrible memory leak issues. Has a lot to do with the C++ run time errors, ???? errors, random DCs and horrible lag spikes.

These errors you receive really has nothing to do with your hardware or drivers.

As you have noticed your computer and drivers run AWSOME when you play any other game other than Silkroad. This is not coincidence.

Difference is Joymax don't care. Not being addressed.
