In the past few days I've seen at least 10 threads/posts where someone is whining about being hacked, but you CAN'T get "hacked".
First of all, hacking is one thing, cracking is a whole different thing and guess what, so is being naive and stupid:

*Never go to unknown pages where they offer you an unlimited bot, it is a scam.

*Never, EVER share your account since you cannot change the username, and online friends tend to last not too long in most cases.

*When you get an e-mail from JoyMax saying that they need your account and password, it's a scam, they'll never ask you for such information, if they needed it they'd just take it from the database.

*Everytime you're at SRO website or JoyMax site, check the address bar and make sure the url is the correct one. There are tons of exploit sites (phising websites that look exactly like the real one)

*Never bot, even though you can feel safe, you're going to get hacked/banned sooner or later.

Here's a little story:

Player A is in the same union as Player B, that union has a forum and a chat. At certain point Player A makes Player B mad and pisses him off, then Player B decides to steal Player A's account. To do that Player B goes into Player A's profile, and writes down his e-mail and birth date, then he writes down his name.
Player A's e-mail is I_am_Player_A@hotmail.com, then Player B goes to Hotmail and checks what the secret question is. The question is "What's the first name of my grandmother".

Player B smoothly ask Player A: "Hey man, do you have any grandparents?"
Player A says: "Yep, the four of them so far!"
Player B: "Cool! how old are they?"
Player A: They're 68, 59, 63 and 62 years old.. why?"
Player B: "Just wondering! Well, that's pretty cool, I only have one grandparent alive, it's my father side grandparent, his name is Albert, what are your grandparents names?" And so on.

Player B now has Player A info.

Last name
First name
E-mail

With that, Player B got Player A's SRO user name.

Now he's after his password!

Id
E-mail

Player B easily manages to get to the next step since he knows what Player A's Id and e-mail address are. He's on the last step, the SRO secret question.

(Secret Question: What was your first car?)

Player B: hey Player A, do you have a car?
Player A: Yep it's a chevy 62', and you?
Player B: Nope, not yet =(

(Now Player B assumes that's Player A's first car because Player A is only 20 years old, but it isn't the right secret answer!")

Player B: Have you ever had any other car?
Player A: Yeah a Mini Morris =P
Player B: BINGO
Player A: What?
Player B: N...nothing, hehe =P

The End.

So people, heads up! Use a random birth date and a e-mail address you only use to register at forums and stuff! If you don't have one, create it! And don't go for the obvious Hotmail/Gmail/Yahoo/AOL when registring a new SRO account!
Also, don't be so dumb and follow what I said in the first place.

Casey.

The sad thing is that those scenarios are even shorter in most of the "hacking" sessions.

Player A and Player B are best buds.

Player B: Sup
Player A: Sup my best bud
Player B: I'm getting kinda bored of playing on my char, ya wanna switch for today?
Player A: Sure man, I trusts you like a shitton!

Two months later, Player A and Player B get into a minor disagreement, or hell, Player B is just feeling a bit like a douche bag on a particular day, and "hacks" Player A and strips the account.

Player A on SRF: I got hacked :(

what are you talking about... i am a hacker and have hacked 100000 people..

lol no not really, but.. a real hacker could.. and 99.9999999999999999% of people that know sro cant hack there way out of a wet paper bag.. but if anyone really could there would be nothing left on the server he played on.

Remember Lypt from Mars with the SUN Spear 64, the only 8D Sun in server? well guess what he dont have it anymore. A guildmate of mine either bought it or hacked it. Either way, Lypt gave his accnt info out and now its gone. But it gets better. Guess what Lypt does....Lypt goes and tells Gargamel that the spear has been hacked.

This is the part where I am confused and no longer trust GM's.

What Gargamel should have done:

"Sorry Lypt you gave out your account info and I cannot do anything about your Spear because you had your chance and blew it."

What really happend:

Gargamel gives out the guild members stall character info to Lypt and Lypt gets on it and Strips the account of all his 72 weapons, gold, and anything else he had.

Lypt is no longer in my guild, but last night he logged onto one of my guild members accounts and said it was his friends account and started crying that the scammer is still in our guild. So we all talked to him and said that its his own fault and then had to ban that guild member lol.

So anyway what do u think about the GM giving out a players info to another player, just because that player was stupid enough to give out his accnt info?

Yeah he talked to him because gargamel gave the spear to him in the first place for winning a screenshot contest.

With email verification, u dont need secret answer anymore. Say bye to it.
But... is it 100% safe?
No, because... if u let your friend touch your pc while your Yahoo or MSN messenger is on. They can have access to your email. Then say bye to your account if u go to toilet :D

i want whatever you have been smoking

the whole gargamel story crap is bullshit, people just tend to try to act cool by telling other players they know GM`s and therefor thinking they are godly.

or he sold his char or he got scammed one of those 2.

rule number 1 to make your account safe create a silkroad only email and write it down on a paper in your agenda for example.

share only when you are sure about what you are doing or don`t care to be scammed one day.

but as some people have shown us you can get scammed due to simple google search terms.

I never want to log into my account and see my select screen where my girls are naked. I will quit if that ever happens.

People must be aware of the secret questions so they can recongize people trying to fish.

I havent set up the email virifcation yet, does that mean hackers still need my secret answer?

yes at least after joymax last fix
they messed it up in the begin and you could just scam an account without the need of the secret answer but now its fixed.
i just recommend to use email verification as soon as you can
even when they find out your ID and PASSWORD they can`t view your personal information, each time you log in and want to modify your information you will receive an email with a code to make sure its you.

that has nothing to do with joymax security. all those accounts are bot accounts that used a keylogged bot.
