mastercard gift card question! please help..

i dont understand, when i put my credit card number on my master card gift card it always says this "You have entered an invalid number or partial credit card or debit card number. Please check your entry and try again.". Please explain? The card is already activated but why doesn't it work? Can you please explain this step by step. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: i even activated it online and it still doesn't work
