I started with creating a gap. Now at lvl 36 and skills at 32. Now and then I look at the results when grinding. I compare the SP earned with the grinding of red scorpion at lvl 33 and at lvl 36. I expected the amount of SP to be (much?) higher at lvl 36, due to the gap. Nope, nada! I thought greater gap, quicker raise of SP and slower raise of EP.
Do I understand the mechanism or not?

Please explain.

You are not gapped high enough to see a huge difference. Each point in gap is 10% more SP. At a 4 gap you are getting 140% SP. Personally if you are trying to farm a lot of SP stop now and make a new character. Or grind a lot of hearts and delvl your mastery and skills.

@Kontroversy,

Point about the 140% and so on: taken.
However: why delevelling? What's the difference between 9-gapping at level 20 or 30 or 40. Isn't it all same?

Well if you are solo grinding, it wont make much of a difference where you go as long as you are in an area where you are killing lots of mobs (1-2 hitting). But when you are 9 gapped farming at ongs with a high lvl you get crazy amounts of SP compared to grinding with a gap. 90+ bard or wiz kills so many ongs you get a steady stream of SP.

I am not saying this is the only way, or if you dont farm at ongs you are dumb. Because it does not matter how you play as long as you have fun...But if you are looking for a good amount of SP that is the fastest route.

You dont sound like you are aiming for some crazy FF 110 character, so just continue to play and enjoy it. Stay at a 6 gap or so and get a bit of SP but still be able to lvl up. At this low lvl you are not going to get high amounts of SP anyways.

Deleveling at a lower level in order to prepare for SP farming has advantages. You can get a friend to help you or pay for powerlevel at ongs. Leveling with a 9 gap is just about impossible and a 6 gap would be difficult and slow for a Euro.

At higher levels, you sometimes need to go further to your grind spot - for example, I grind in the Roc Mountain area and it takes a good 3-4 minutes more to get to my grind spot.

Plus there will be more competition from player bots to find a grind spot. Although at higher levels it is slightly easier to find a party.

Grinding with a 4 gap is relatively easy for a Euro if you have a good weapon and good equipment. Again, that gets much more expensive as you get higher. That SoM staff would be a lot more pricey if it were 9th degree.

@Kontroversy,

You're right, completely.
I left school, so not that amounts of time any more, 2-3 hours a week at irregular moments.
A lot of solo actions, when I'm bored of grinding, a nice party, CTF or killing "high level" mob. I'm lvl 36 (mastery at lvl 32), I get a kick killing some 45 lvl monsters. :D
9-gapping is not impossible with my equipment :wink: (SOM +5)
