Ok in the Silkroad Gen. Discussion part of the forum i already made a topic about this but anyways....... Whenever i play SRO my computer restarts itself. Now, i have asked many people and they said my computer is either over-heating or my graphics card is not meant for gaming. Well ive played SRO with this graphics card before so i dunno whats wrong. Anyone care to help me?

When you play high spec graphic based games your cpu and graphics card get worked very hard and produce more heat. Maybe you PC is overheating.

Check cpu fan and graphics card fans are working first.

Then, clean any dust out of your computer using a can of compressed air. Be very careful not to damage anything. DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner, they produce lots of static, static and microchips don't go together.

If you're still having a problem then you may need additional cooling in your system. Then again, it could be something else entirely.

Make sure your graphics card fan is still turning. Mine wasn't and it got up to 284 degrees Fahrenheit then my computer shut off. Same thing with my CPU temp on my laptop except a bit lower temp. There's a discontinued program called Everest that measures various temperatures in your computer that I just so happen to have an installer for:

Just install that and look for the temps area. Also, if U right click on the desktop and go to properties on the settings tab there should be an advanced button and one of the tabs on the window that opens should have the name of your graphics card on it (if your card is worth half a crap) and hopefully one of the thingies in there will have to do with temperature. If U got an Asus motherboard U can download the asus probe utility too from their website and that tell U lots of temps too. If the processor or hard drive go over 60C or 140F, that's high enough to shut them off and your graphics card can possibly go a lot higher but something's wrong if it's over about 65C or 150F. If so, check and clean the fans. If all the fans are fine it's most likely your power supply failing cuz those are the most common parts to break in a computer.

There are many reasons why your pc shuts down during game, and it will take a little time to explore each possibility.

As suggested, it could be a high temperature issue, which may be caused by a number of things.

- Check the cpu heatsink/fan is clear of dust and crap, same for the gfx card. It is very normal that over time the fans will push this stuff into the heatsink, as your system case fans intake air to create airflow (to cool your components) it will also intake dust, and over time this accumulates.

- Check to see your case's intake and exhaust fans have clear flow. Some cases use filters, which need to be cleaned out occasionally.

It is unlikely that your gfx card is unable to deal with the game's demands, as you've stated you have been playing with it for a while.

- But, installing a latest driver may in fact resolve such issues.

How long since you installed your operating system?
How long since your last defrag?

Systems need to be defragged every now and then, to clean out the remnantsof old software no longer used, partially uninstalled, etc that creates similar probs. Checkdisk may give you an idea of your system's file structure, and whether or not you need to reinstall OS.

Your OS may be corrupt, caused by faulty ram. Download and run a bootable floppy called http://www.memtest86.com/ to test your ram.

I reinstall my OS every 6-12 months to keep my system running smoothe.

Another hardware related issue may be a hard drive tht is dieing. You will find most manufacturers have a utility that will allow you to check if your hard drive is on the way out, has some damaged sectors, and may even repair it for you, like Seagate uses Seatools http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/

you prove just how much you don't know every time you post. I checked the temp and it was in the 140 and I was like hmmm that's kinda warm then I noticed it was in celcius which in Fahrenheit is at least 284. And I put my hand near the heat sink and yeah, it was pretty hot! Look up carious metals' melting temperatures, moron. It's at 55C at the moment btw.

You realize nothing in your computer would function at 140 C? Moron.

reeeeeaaaally cuz "The result is that a stock X1800 XL can reach temperatures exceeding 80°C Celsius (176°F) under load" So if a similar graphics card can get to 80°C with the fan working then what would happen if the fan stopped turning? And why was the default max temp warning on my graphics card set above 100°C by default? Hmm could it be because you're a dumbass and don't know that modern graphics cards can function at those temperatures. Not to mention that you said "nothing in my computer" and the inside of my cold cathode neons are WAY hotter than that. You just keep surprising me with how stupid you can be.

put all the game settings on low and turn everything like shadow off. The go to wal-mart and buy yourself a $10 fan. Turn the fan on high and make sure it's blowing on ur pc. Here...i drew you a picture.

k thnx for the replies i got it to work (somehow?) But anyways now the letters are a ll screwed up. They are missing. IF i type the word "Athens" It would show up as a h ns.
