Edit: My apology, this has been posted in "General Discussion" already. I was looking through this section, and I didn't find it. So I thought it was still unknown.

Recently many people have been crashing ever since the updates by Joymax were implemented. Here is a small process on how to prevent from crashing too much.

1. Run Silkroad first.
2. While the game is running, launch the "Task Manager" by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard.
3. The "Task Manager" will then show up.
4. You should see the following tabs:
[Applications] [Processes] [Performance] [Networking] [Users]
5. Make sure the game is running! Click on the "Processes" tab.
6. Now, this will show a list of programs that are currently running. Look for the "sro_client.exe" in the list.
7. Once you have found the file, right click on it and click on "Set Affinity".
8. You should now see the "Processor Affinity" window.
9. You will see CPU0 and so on. If two or more are checked, uncheck each one until you are left with one that is checked. It doesn't matter which one you choose, anyone of them will work.
10. When one of them is checked, and the rest aren't click on "OK". Now you can close the window.

Credit goes to CWB for telling me the solution. I was crashing numerous times every 5 or so minutes by the usual errors given by the game. I changed it, and now I've been on for more than an hour without any problems. The problem is caused by the client, not the computer. The client is unstable to run on two or more affinities , therefore crashing the game. I hope this helps for many who are experiencing the problem still. Hopefully you all can play again. Peace! :D

Please note: To those users who see two cores - just be aware you might not HAVE two physical cores. P4-HT's (hyperthreaded) will show two cores, but it's NOT hardware, it's software.

If you do this and it slows down your SRO, that may be why.

I wrote this in the GD section, but i will paste it here as well. This is a guide for both the freezing and the ??? errors, all the information being gathered from other guides in the technical help area and all pasted into 1 nice guide with pictures in it.

I use to freeze every time i went to town, or i use to get the ??? error a lot. So what i did is the following ( screenshots included ) and it solved my problems. Although I typed this all myself I got the info from the technical help section, where you should of gone first.

First of all to fix those pesky dc errors, we do the following. Go into the silkroad folder in the program files, then for each of the four .exe's right click and go to properties. Whilst in properties go to compatibility, and change the compatibility mode to windows 98/me.

Now do this for each of the four .exe’s They are labeled sro_client, replacer, silkroad and SilkErrSender

Now that should hopefully fix the ??? errors, though i chose to do this next step as well as it fixes problems where my computer just freezes when in town. Note the fact that this must be done every time you load up your client. So its best to do it at the character selection screen, as theres no point doing it if your client closes when you fail to log in on the first attempt.

Now when your client is all nice and loaded up, hit the windows key and proceed to use the crtl alt del combination. When at this screen, right click on the sro_client and click on go to process.

Image

Now from here, right click on sro_client.exe, then go to priority, then set it to high as opposed to normal

Image

Now if you have a dual core computer, like myself, you can also set the affinity so it runs off one as opposed to 2. I don’t know the logic behind it, but it fixed my problem. So now once again right click on the sro_client exe and go to Set Affinity, it should be right below the set priority option. From here, click the boxes so just the 1st cpu is clicked.

Now you must do this each and every time you open the client, but it has been a perfect solution for me. I hope it works for you too.

p.s If theres any mistakes someone please say so and ill fix them. Im very tired so i did this without paying too much attention >.<
