I have the exact same error.

I was playing fine and the system started to get a little laggy, so I decided to exit the game and reboot the computer. Windows reboot, started SRO as usual and BOOM~~~ that stupid GameGuard 340 error popped up... I am so glad that I did not pay a penny for this game.

It is running slow for me too. I read something about a DDoS aimed at GG. >.>

That would **** everyone up right now, not just Silkroad. My opinion is that they should just get rid of the GG. It is worthless.

I also wanted to mention that I have read over past forums and done some of the things they said to do. I tried everything from reinstalling the game, to deleting GG from the folder and allowing Silk to reinstall that portion. Nothing is working, and now I am getting the 380 message and not the 340. >.>

I was in the middle of playing when I got booted off. Then got the same error 340. Gameguard could not connect to server blah, blah, blah. Tried the uninstall thing and now I get a 360 error. :x

It stinks that not all are booted from play...just think they are all lvling up while we sit here and wait. :D anyway, I am going to uninstall and reinstall the game, just to kill time.

Hope to see you all those silk roads again soon. Oh and I put a comment on the joymax site. Asked them what the crap is going on. Not a word yet. :banghead:

I'll be ressing you soon...Jisgwa

Good to see it's back up and running. My wife and I tried logging in last night and got the gameguard error. It didn't say anything about 340 or 360 but was a generic error saying to email the *.erl files to an email address at nprotect.com

I logged on this morning and it worked for me. Maybe I should have stayed connected in case it happens again :-P

Solution To Error 340

To all those who may be getting this error, here's the solution .

Follow the steps on Solution 1, IF by any chance they do not happen to work proceed to Solution 2 and that should fix it up.

Solution 1:

1. Go to the hosts file located in C:/WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc.
2. Right click the hosts file and select Properties, in the new window untick the Read-Only box if it isn't already.
3. Close the Properties window and right click the hosts file again and open it up with Notepad.
4. It should look something like this:

# Copyright (C) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

127.0.0.1 gameguard.maplestory.com

127.0.0.1 gameguard.maplestory.com

127.0.0.1 gameguard.maplestory.com

127.0.0.1 gameguard.maplestory.com

5. The '127.0.0.1 'gameguard.maplestory.com' lines are the cause the Error 340

6. Simply delete all the lines reading '127.0.0.1 gameguard.maplestory.com'

7. Save the hosts file and close Notepad.

8. Just to check reopen the hosts files with Notepad and make sure it hasn't reverted to its previous state; by that I mean if it has re-added the '127.0.0.1 gameguard.maplestory.com' lines.

9. If it has then proceed to Solution 2! If not then go back to the hosts file's Properties, re-tick the Read-Only box and go back to Mapling!

Solution 2:

If Solution 1 didn't work for you, then use this.

1. Click on the Start menu and select Run.

2. In the box type in MSCONFIG and press the Ok button.

3. A new window will pop up, simply click on the BOOT.INI tab and under BOOT OPTIONS, tick /SAFEBOOT and press Ok.

4. The computer will ask for you to restart and proceed in doing so

5. When loading up Windows XP you may recieve a message saying 'Load up in Safe Mode', just click Yes to that message if you receive it.

6. Now your resolution will be quite off and the GUI will look rather unusual, but don't worry it'll only be like this for a short period of time.

7. Head to CWINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc again and make sure that under the hosts file's Properties the Read-Only box is unticked/unchecked

8. Open up the hosts file with Notepad and delete the '127.0.0.1 gameguard.maplestory.com' lines.

9. Save it once you're done, re open to make sure the lines have not come back, and finally re tick the Read-Only box under Properties.

10. Select Run in the Start menu and type in MSCONFIG in the box if it isn't already there.

11. Select the BOOT.INI tab and un-tick the /SAFEBOOT box and click Ok or Apply

12. Click ok when prompted to Restart and computer and once that's done everything should return back to it's normal state.

13. Everything should be working now but IF it still doesn't work (It really shouldn't) just reinstall Maple and it might be necessary to redo Solution 2.

Hope this solves your problems
