Ok, Im messing around with settings and I fixed the crashes.....for me anyways. I always crashed in town ( doesnt matter which) while having a stall open. Normal time for a crash would be about 20 - 30 minuts of selling. I have been testing what I changed for 12 hours now without a crash and in the place I crashed the most.

So what did I do?

I simply dissabled in the BIOS:
1: Video BIOS Cacheable
2: System BIOS Casheable
3: Video Ram Cacheable

Now I did these all at the same time and I have had no problems since, in fact I am selling as I type this. It could have been just one of those that I changed, or all of them. I dont know because I did all three at the same time.

So if this works for all or some, thats great. As for me, I can finaly sell for more than a half hour without a crash.

Oh yeah, and if it works for you and you see me in the Aege server and want to show your gratitude Smile please feel free to donate gold or any sos items for my great servces Very Happy Very Happy

Basic Input Output System

When you turn your pc on, at the boot screen or once its on press DEL to enter it. This may vary for different computers, but at the boot screen it should tell you what button to press to enter BIOS. Sometimes its DEL or F2 on dells or watever. Just look at the boot screen (black and white fonts) you should be able to find it without a problem.

The main question is:

WHY on earth would disabling the caches of reserved memory areas solve the ???? error?

This is definately a new solution proposed and it looks very promising, though I'm reluctant to change the default settings on my PC.

Any folks tried it out and stopped the ??? errors?

What effect does disabling those caches have on the system anyway? Thanks :)

Usually the BIOS will have these caching functions in the setup available; which motherboard do you have?

In any case: the only reason I can think of why this might solve some ???? errors is if you have RAM problems. You might want to download a simple RAM checker, and run it for a few hours (most Linux distributions carry good ones as a startup option on the installation disk). I still have ????? errors, and my RAM checked out fine, so I'm sure there's more than one reason for these crashes. In my case i'm suspecting Windows '98, DirectX, and the ATI drivers.

I've noticed that there are conditions for these errors; usually in very busy areas. I've also noticed that if this happens, I'm usually not the only person who this happens to: when I log back in the area around me is quite a bit emptier (except when I die because of it :banghead: ).

AFAIK these crashes are realated to some video drivers overload and/or memory leaks on SRO code.

On Cities you crash a lot more than on some non overpapulated areas, so, the caches have nothing to do with that.

phulshof:

Nah, I don't think Window$98 has anything with it. Some bad coded lines maybe, but Win98 I doubt.

First of all, every mobo has a different BIOS, therefore the CMOS settings will vary greatly between everyone's PCs, so this isn't a fix that everyone can just apply.

Second of all, come back and tell me you fixed it when you have kept your game running for a week straight. Until then, 12 hours means crap. Last night and the night before, Every time I came back to my stall after sleeping, I had gotten a ??? error crash. However, today I left my stall on for a good 10-12 hours while I was away, came back, and hadn't crashed. Guess what, I didn't change any setting on my computer, hardware, software, or otherwise.

Sorry to shoot down your theory bud, and for right now it has to stay a theory because it can't be proven 100%, and even then, the "fix" cannot be blanketed across all users.

Due to the unknown cause of the error, there may be multiple fixes for it and just because something works for you may not mean that it applies to all people experiencing the error. I receive that error, but I'm not about to change those settings as doing so WILL slow down your machine. It may not be by a very noticable amount, but it will happen.

I also have the same problem with not being able to leave a stall open in a city for more than a couple hours when I try to stall while I sleep. It is very rare that I have the error while I am actually playing, but after being idle for a few hours I get it. I can actually count on one hand the number of times the game has not crashed after being left on overnight. I have not done anything to fix this since it is a flaw in the game and it should not be necessary for us to have to work around problems of the game rather than having Joymax fix those problems, which I am sure they are dilligently working on.

it's not something you generally want to do to your computer. you'll have huge memory issues if you start playing games. my GX260 doesn't have any options for turning off cache memory transfer stuff. I don't think any person in their right mind would want to do that.

Have you guys even posted a bug report to Joymax?
If you did, What did they say to you?

I don't even think they can handle soo many Bug Reports becuase they have soo many players. And what I can see is that alot of people in this forum have the crashes.

I read the sticky for the ??? error. But still didn't get anything.

I hope you guys find a solution to everyones crashes.
