Does it let him forward any ports? No idea what that firewall would be like.

I have a router at home, a natural firewall that doesnt forward anything until you configure it to.

And Im not forwarding anything to my computer.

And all of the comps on the LAN can run silkroad.

Um, but if it IS a firewall problem, then theres not much you can do other than asking the network administrator to forward those ports to you.

But its highly unlikely; as said, I don't forward anything.

Um, and you know this post should be in technical help.

His problem might also be related to the same connection problems other people are having.

just a guess, but you might be able to get around the firewall with a proxy server... but judging by what most people say about them and SRO, it might not run well, so, you may have to get a paid proxy, and hope it works...

a proxy as ppl above said would work... and it's about the only way you can do it.

also... it is highly unlikely that his Uni's firewall would block Sro (well if he's in a dorm at least). if anything it's probably because joymax did their little dns thing and if thats the case then it should be fixed in a few more days.

Using proxy may cause security vulnerability, so better way would be to make some gift to a guy who's responsible for network, let's say a keg of beer 8)

oh boy, I just so happen to be an all around IT expert (and hacker lol) Universities use hardware PIX's unless they're completely retarded and those are the toughest firewalls that exist. The standard setting for them at universities is the opposite of regular firewalls. They block ALL ports except the ones used. Port 80 I think is for the internetand and 6001 for Starcraft if I remember correctly :P so yeah, most software uses a unique port but it doesn't really matter which one SRO uses because you're not going to get it unblocked. In order, the network connection to a proxy would be computer-collegeserver-pix-proxy-SROserver so using a proxy won't help at all because the SRO data will still stop at the PIX. The only way for it to work is to drive down to starbucks, buy one of those giant cookies, and play wirelessly on their connection :P I suppose some sort of program or hardware out there exists for re-routing data from one port to another that isn't blocked but it wouldn't be safe and certainly not fast and might confuse the SRO servers. So yeah, try and find an outside connection otherwise there's no way.
