I have been having the exact same problem. To clarify, after I click start and the thing goes through Game Guard, then a error message pops up saying:
"
Runtime Error!

Program: ...and Settings\All Users\Documents\Silkroad\sro_client.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
"
The message header is: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"

Since I could not find the support team I thought I'd come here but unfortunately my search of the error resulted in this topic which has not been replied to.
Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Ill reinstall tomorrow when I get the chance.
You said move the .exe... but to where?
And Im pretty sure I have the latest drivers and Direct X, but even if i didnt I doubt thats the problem, it wont even load the actual game.

hm really weird.. the problem with this kind of thing is that
mostly the only ppl who know the answer are the ppl that
have had this problem themselves.. i havent so sry.. but i
will try search a solution.

what normally helps me is google the problem. sometimes
other forums (like tweakers.net etc) have solutions to these
problems.

Ok so i googled the problem and I found this:

http://www.silkroadtavern.com/forums/index.php?s=bd7f88d96b8397901166e53138cc5640&showtopic=22349

If you dont want to read the whole thing it basically says the error is most likely an old video card driver. Figure out what video card you have and get the latest driver for it accordingly. Ill try this later (Im a little busy right now) and let you guys know if it works.
Thanks cin for your advice and help.
