From what you are posting it sounds like there must be a hardware issue, if you reformatted then there should be no chance of a software issue.

Here are the most likely sources of your problems:

1. Video Card, if there is bad ram on your card or there is something wrong with its cooling then after running the game for a little it could crash. This could go unnoticed for a while untill something were to happen on the card. If you have somebodys card to swap out I would try that.

2. Memory, your ram could be bad, run the following program:
http://www.memtest86.com/
and it should tell you if there are any problems with your ram. If you have 2 sticks then take one out and try it and then take the other out.

3. Power supply, the power supply can present problems in many ways and usually it is my reccomendation to replace the power supply before replacing any other component as it is usually the cheapest and other problems can come from a bad power supply.

I hope this helps you somewhat and let me know what you come up with.

 this really have gone awry.....having the hardware to look into  .......& the next thing these techies would say : BUY A NEW ONE !!!!
btw, ive just bought the vid card, the previous one got burned (literally burned), but SRO ran still smoothly for about 2days of it until this problem.....

i still have to ran the mem test, somethings wrong with my floppy drive, its giving off a drumming sound...

i have two culprits in mind though...

1. my router : since im using one (but ive used this router ever since, other PCs are attached to this as well, & the first time i played SRO ive never done anything to the router)

2. SRO server : the problem started when SRO crashed & i have to restart, & then - BOOM - silkroad.exe problem (but ive encountered this before & after an hour or two i could log back again into the game....

....moreso im playin 2 more OL games & they're all well, no issues or whatsoever......

but thnx so much for your advice, we (me & techie) have something to move on to....

ive tried all they've suggested - from firewall stopping, anti-virus off (i eve removed mine 2 of them), lowering cookie (ive put it to the lowest possible), attached a DOS ping on the hosts file, patching & re-patching, dowloaded all their drivers, updated all drivers too, etc. etc....by midnight ill be chanting vodoo words surrounded by candles (joke), perhaps my PC have bad spirits in them thats how desperate i am now.

From the specs, you have a seperate graphics card that's running on AGP and if your mainboard comes with a on-board graphics card or sound card, try to disable the onboard graphics card. I have seen some issues about onboard graphics card causing some games to crash out.

Yes, the problem seems hardware related. However, during the week that you played and everything is fine up to 3 days ago, is there anything that you have done? Installation of new programme etc.

I would probably not recommend that you uninstall anti virus softwares but I know users who have sworn that by uninstalling it, they can play the game.

You do have the latest version of direct-x and the latest version of nvidia drivers correct?

I checked on your MB and it doesn't have onboard video so count that out.

Your graphics card, while on the low side, does not require a molex connection from your power supply so that couldnt be the problem.

Again, I would run memtest and if you replace anything, make it the power supply first. Not before going to:

Direct X
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

and

Nvidia Driver
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_84.21.html

Let us know how it works.

I have the same prob as the person who started the thread.
Silkroad.exe has encountered a problem... and it does it every time i try to start the game. It crashes just after I allow it to connect nut not before it. So it sounds that the HOSTS file edit fix should work, but it does not.

I have re-installed my windows several times and tried without firewall and everything else, but nothing works. I was playing it without any probs till friday. after that it wouldn´t start.

So if anyone knows if those IPs are correct (HOSTS-file fix: 222.111.150.111 gwgt1.joymax.com
80.15.232.4 nprotect.nefficient.com)
or would it be because of gameguard?

please help, this is driving me mads! :banghead:

OY tell me about it....

My silkroad was working PERFECTLY... then I got into a heavy fight, tabbed out on accident: essentially lagged it so bad it froze up.. So I had to force close it through task manager. Now it won't start... keeps saying error server is under inspection.. yadda yadda... Before you say anything! It is NOT under inspection as my bro is right next to me playing it. :x SO.. I re-installed, re-patched... NOOOO it STILL doesn't want to start, NOW I get the error message he print-screened: "silkroad yas encountered a problem.. sorry for inconven... yadda yadda...." I've re-installed, re-started, it's NOT hardware as it was working fine before, I Tried that windows/sys32/etc/host, didn't do a darned thing..... Still get error message.... antivirus shut down, so don't mention that... I think the damned addictive game just has a buncha ghetto pple in charge of it who can't even fix a problem w/the game TONS of pple get... I mean, c'mon!!!! If they know so many pple have this problem, FIX THE DARNED PROB!!! Jeez........ :banghead: I wanna play...

(I'm gonna keep trying and trying and trying and trying........)
