my friend and i are lv20, it sucks that we can't really be good thieves until at least lv 40, so what i'm asking is-How long did it take you to get to lv40?and how long do you think it would take on average?

it depends. took me hand training my char a few months.

but my euro character is level 34 already, and that took 2 days, because its getting powerlevled by a level 80. If you want easy leveling you should do the same, idk about other servers but on mine, Zeus, its usually 300-400k per hour people charge for p leveling.

Well, to answer your first Q, it'd take about 22 days to get from 20 - 40 if you grind 6 hours a day and do a nice run.

This could help you, though it's outdated lol...
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic ... highlight=

or if you have a nice high lvl friend that can plvl you for free or cheap...it'd take even less time

as for your second question, traders bring goods from one city to another, just talk to the merchant npc and special goods npc in every town...depending on the distance from town to town you get a varying profit (also depends on the * you get in the trade, 1 * gives the least, 5* gives the most, but if you go from 2* or higher any player thief can attack you, also note that after you reach lv40, you can be attacked from player thieves even if you're doing a 1*)

jangan to donwhang(sp?) you get the least...jangan to constantinople(sp?) you'd get the most...but it'd take a long time to do that XD..

Took me 8 months to get to lvl 40, but I was grinding maybe 1-2 hours a week. But if you get powerleved you can reach 40 in about 2-3 days.

It depends on your build.

It took me 2 and a half months to get to 40 with my wizard. That was without a premium.

.....To really answer your question, 20-40 will take you under 2 weeks. In fact at that time you could easily do 2 lvls a day alone through quests. I already did the gunpowder quest, but it gives you (adding on delivery quest which you get after the first one) level 21 and 22, and all you need to do is kill around 300 gun powders since drop rate is really good on the bombs.

Do yourself a favour and do the chinese quest from 20-40 excluding the long linker quests at 35...useless.
You don't need to grind for 6 hours straight to get 20-40 in less than 2 weeks...all you need is to know where to do it.

personally i started farming from lvl 24 on gap. the game is not just about fast lvling.. i prefer getting to lvl 40 farmed and strong a bit slower, than to be 40 very quick but very weak.
also when u lvl a bit slower u have more time to prepare your equipment with blues, gather alchemy items, and make more gold from grinding&getting items drops&sell them which = more gold. and all that to keep u strong all the time. when u are strong u can also hunt mobs higher lvl than u and compensate for the gap. consider also that when u plvl u dont get any items/gold cause most people who do plvl make the party item distribution and not share, so personally i dont like plvl at all. think about it.
my opinion.
