This is by far one of the best guides on this issue I’ve seen, and this is due to the use of statistical probabilities for gaining certain levels when using lucky powder. (The percentages being 95%, 80%, 70%, 60%, and 50% respectively)
I am in the process of plussing my SOM ARMOR set to +5 and I was wondering if I could see the original data that created these percentages so that I could add my data in order to gain more precise figures. It would help a lot of people if they could calculate the probable number of elixirs needed to gain a certain level.
The numbers as stated yield probable usages for desired levels as follows
+1: 1 elixir,
+2: equal chance of 2 and 4 Elixirs,
+3: 6 elixirs
+4: 12 Elixirs
+5: 30 Elixirs
(these numbers are slightly rounded)
However it may be that we can refine these numbers in order to better calculate to real probabilities if your and my data can be combined. Please provide a link or a contact to the original data or post it here.
Also to anyone else who may be interested in this project please post your number of tries and number of successes at given levels.

Pardon the the wordiness of my last post I had just finished a paper on Thucydides and I had been awake for like 30 hours, so my internet post looks unacceptably academic.

The +11 you posted isn't the SRO... the is kSRO...
Can't reach above +9 on SRO.
Also, 30 elixirs to get +5? Sometimes it takes me 30 to get +4...
It just depends how much luck you have on the weapon.
Chances of hitting +9 without a premium ticket and stuff... just straight from +0... is 1/100,000
Takes about 600 weapon elixirs.
200,000
x000,600
-----------
120,000,000 gold. :O
XD

Yeah those numbers seem a little low that is why I want the original figures so I will be able to determine more accurate ones.

A 10% difference in the numbers would change the outome drasticly (in other words 85%, 70%, 60%, 50%, and 40% respectively) would yield that the average number of elixers needed to reach +5 is 71 and the average to get to +4 is 25 (these numbers also do not look right which is why im planning on running alot of expiriments to try and find the real percent success rate for each lvl)

Nice job! very comprehensive alchemy guide! But i still have a question...
What happens if I put 3 Elixirs to the alchemy at the same time? Will I get +3 if the alchemy is successful???
Or if i put 3str stones to the alchemy at the same time, Will i get +3 strength if it is successful???
pls reply
Tnx

so i just +4 for my sos 2h sword
WITHOUT any lucky powders
i kinda bought a 3rd degree instead of a 4th degree
and i wanted to do it fast and well i was rlly lucky
but i dont kno i think this weapon is rlly rlly lucky
cause before putting it to +4 i added a strength and an int
my question is
should i go for a +5
even tough i dont have any astrals or immortals
i dont rlly wana buy them
is ther another way of getting
cause i tried breaking many weapons wit imm and steady on them
and well nothing came out of them
so ya.

@Morice
If you got lots of gold to buy elix/lucky powder, go without astral/immortal. But it might be hard to get it back to +4 if it fails. Good luck!
@Guide Author
I really like the 7.0 part on this guide. I also set my limit on each item that i pimp. In addition, i suggest to get a new piece if an item keeps on failing on certain +, I resell stuffs which fails 3 times on +3. It does saves me a lot.
Stickies please

Wow great guide, helped me learn heaps about alchemy. But i was wondering, when should i start using it? Like... is it worth it to use degree 2 tablets?
Do degree# tablets only work on degree# weapons?
What should i do with unwanted tablets, do i sell to NPC or do i sell to players?
If i sell tablets to players, which ones do people usually buy?

So for me, it would be either farming gear or mid/high level grinding gear Like... is it worth it to use degree 2 tablets? imo, no. alchemying d3 items can be worth it, like when you pimp up your level 16 farming weapon and the gear that goes with it.Do degree# tablets only work on degree# weapons? yes, except for elixirs. d# stones only go on d# gearWhat should i do with unwanted tablets, do i sell to NPC or do i sell to players? depends on what tablet and the degree of the tablet. i normally npc'ed most of my low d tabsIf i sell tablets to players, which ones do people usually buy? its mostly the farmers or the high levels that buy tabs to alchemy.

Hmm, nice guide, very easy and detailed. Though I would advice to read Ryoko's 'Learning about Alchemy" guide also http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=18488 Each item has a certain percentage of probability of success. In others words: some items are just easier to pimp than other. This simple fact saved me a lot of money If I can't make +3 on the first try, I won't even try to get +4 or +5. The same with blues: some items will never increase STR or INT, or will never get higher than let's say 50%, it's useless to spend your money on it.
