I. Introduction –
This guide is made to clear up some grey spots about the sometimes infamous MMORPG practice of grinding. When starting a game it is sometimes confusing and frustrating not knowing how to grind and if what you’re doing is the best leveling technique.

II. What is Grinding? –
According the Urban Dictionary the term “Grinding” is “Also Known As Dirty Dancing. When a girl is rubbing her ass all over a guys penis until it comes to the point where he gets a woody”. Now, this might be the case but this guide is for MMORPG grinding which is basically the process of engaging in repetitive tasks such as killing monsters for EXP for a prolonged period of time to access the better parts of a certain game. This is common practice with MMORPG’s especially with Korean or Asian MMORPG’s. The level of Grind is determined by how much EXP or the building blocks of a leveling system you get per task ie. a Monster.
A scenario could be as simple as this –

Game: CottonPath Offline
Character Level: 2
EXP required to level: 100
EXP per Monster: 10

This means that you need to kill 10 monsters to level to the next level; this is considered a very easy grind.
Let’s place another game into the equation, but this time you only get 5 EXP per monster, same level, different game, harder grind.

III. Is Grinding Necessary? -
Many people believe so, this is because that MMORPG’s are a unique genre of game and with its unique comes some difficulties, and a main difficulty might be “How do we add challenge?”. This is where grinding comes in; it is added to give the player challenge and a feeling of accomplishment when they finally reach that level for that new armour. Imagine a game where everyone gets all the best stuff at the beginning, it would be great for a couple of days then it would all get boring.

IV. Grinding in SRO –
Silkroad Online is a Korean MMORPG, Korean MMORPG’s have a reputation for being especially grindy, this reputation appears when it is compared to western games such as World of Warcraft. When compared players reach the Level Cap in WoW MUCH faster than players of SRO or a Korean game. This means that players of a game which requires more Grind must be smarter when hunting. Being smarter is all about gathering knowledge about the games levelling system and how much EXP certain monsters give for your level.
Example –
Character Level: 27
Monster 1: Level 27, aggro, 7 EXP
Monster 2: Level 24, passive, 5 EXP
Now, some people might say “MONSTER 1, 2 MORE EXP!”
This is where smart Grinding comes into play, Monster 2 is a better choice because for 2 less EXP you get a monster which do not gang up on you which means less dying and you can kill them faster.
Grinding in SRO is not only a solo experience, parties are very beneficial in gaining EXP faster. If you can find a party then go with it, play your part and enjoy getting faster experience.

V. How do I Grind? –
Grinding is a very simple task; it just takes a long time depending on your level. When grinding it is to know that you are on the right monster! Before you set up for a grinding session make sure you know the optimum monster.
Some Tips for Grinding –
1. Before you move out to your spot, make sure all your weapons are repaired, have your pots handy and a clear inventory.
2. Be sure that you know exactly what you are doing, don’t go otu and mess around.
3. Basically be efficient, don’t stop for unnecessary reasons

VI. Grind Techniques –
Here are some effective techniques to make grinding easier and faster –
1. Talk to some friends, your guild or union
2. Get comfortable; get a nice chair, etc.
3. Turn on your TV or radio to something amusing but not too amusing this helps me a lot.
4. Grab a drink or some snacks
5. Grind with R/L friends at home or at an internet cafe
6. Have fun with the game, it isn’t a job

VII. Conclusion –
Grinding in my eyes is a necessary evil, it gives the game a certain feel and a great feeling when you finally get there. Armed with this knowledge you’ll be able to apply it to certain situations and you’ll find you’ll be levelling in no times.

nice guys. i lol'd so hard at the definition of "grinding". would be usfull if i wasnt already past the nuby stage lol.

btw why do korean games have so much more grindage? mabey its because theres hardly any endgame stuff to do, job, cape, uniques. but w/e ive played wow and i chose sro.(check my xfire pro if you dont belive me, 1000+ hours of wow)
