So, anyone else ever had any experience with this playonline viewer crap you need for final fantasy xi (i just got the trial) and probably some other games?

Its Farking terrible! Its stupidly slow and even if you save your username and password you still have to click on half a dozen things before you actually get to login. The interface seems like a second desktop and is full of useless shit, i just want to play the damn game! Then it takes forever to check to see if the game is up to date by checking every single file indivdually. Some other games do this aswell but they still arnt as slow.

When its updating there doesnt seem to be any indication of the size of the download or the speed at which its going, so i dont know if its going so slow because of a slow connection or just because its a massive update. The update was going to take 8 hours, so i go to sleep and come back to find it went offline after i left it idle for 20mins... Its also currently managing to use 50% of my processing power and using more ram than anything else running just for downloading these files (im guessing because of its stupidly over the top interface and because it insists on constantly playing music, might be able to change that in some settings somewhere but i cant do anything right now because its updating)

Also, when the update takes more than 5 times longer to download than the initial 2GB installer they should really start thinking about releasing an updated installer... The updater is currently downloading over 14000 files, they all seem to be individual .DAT files and a few others file types. Why the hell dont they put them in a .cab or some other sort of high compression so it downloads faster!!!! would probably make the checking faster aswell!

Well that was a total waste of my time, the game is just a big pile of crap. I didnt even move 2 feet away from where you start in the game. The controls are terrible and the interface and config is even worse, i just dont know where to begin on how bad it all was. I thought X-2 was terrible but this takes the FF series to a whole new level of crap, maybe the storys in the game are good, but i just cant see past the basic functions to get that far into it.
