The most frequent request we have received over the last few months has been to put more PvP back into the game. We want to let you know that this request hasn't gone unheard, and that we've put a lot of research into how we can introduce new PvP mechanisms. The aim is for PvP content that better replaces the old Wilderness, but without reintroducing RWT.

Hopefully, you’re already aware of the imminent Clan Wars release (see the September Behind the Scenes in a couple of weeks for more information), but there are also plans afoot for the most exciting and "old school" PvP update we have ever considered – unique PvP worlds.

As many of our long term players know, in the old RuneScape Classic days you could actually fight players just outside the gates of Lumbridge, before the days of duelling and even before the days of the old Wilderness itself. Players could hunt each other down, chasing them away from favourite resource points and generally "owning" large areas of the map.

So, in 2008, we will be bringing you special 'PvP worlds', where you can fight other players almost anywhere! In addition to all the usual content you might expect to find in RuneScape, they will also include:

Optional sign-up – choose between PvP danger or stick to ordinary play by simply switching worlds.
High danger with items dropped on death.
High rewards for kills. To avoid any RWT issues the reward for a successful PK will be generated by the game, similar to when you kill a monster at the moment. We're creating generous drop tables based on factors like your levels and the impressiveness of the kill.
These drop tables will include "PvP world specific" items like XP-modifying gear, lvl 70+ equipment and new, glorious, short-term but hard hitting gear. These will once again make PKing a viable source of income.
PvP across 99% of the world, including the old Wilderness.
Attack any player within a certain level of your own. Level range depends on the area, similar to the old Wilderness levels.
...And all sorts of other twists on interesting content... Just think of the possibilities when you can PK anywhere!
Naturally, we also have other PvP-orientated content, like Stealing Creation (a resource control game where skillers and PKers work together, creating equipment and beating up the opposition) and Mobilising Armies (a real-time strategy game where you use your hard made bows, swords, etc. to equip your own armies in 4-player battles).

Add all this to a healthy schedule of quests (featuring Arrav and the sequel to Spirit of Summer), holiday events and some unique puzzle content... and the rest of '08 has something for almost everyone.

Finally, we'd like to let you in on a little secret – we're currently working on our highest level, longest, most exciting quest ever. Not necessarily for launch in '08 (it's not something we want to rush, after all), it’s already had more development time than the entirety of "Recipe for Disaster"... but you’ll have to wait to find out more. We're adding secret hints and references all the time about this one, so if you need to know more, just look around! Leave no stone unturned....

(Summary for those who don't want to read it all: They will bring back the Wilderness, with the necessary changes.)

By the way: As you can see, RuneScape totally owns SRO in customer support :P

I played Runescape for about 3years and i think its a great idea to bring back the wilderness in seperate worlds! But..... When the developers of Runescape decided to take on scamming and changed the whole trading sytem they went too far imho. If you know Runescape you know what i'm talking about!

And to compare Runescape support with SRO support is quite unfair since Runescape has a larger group of paying members who deserve support for their money.

They did what they had to,a fresh game without scams or a scamming pk fest ?

I like the idea of the new worlds, sounds nice.Jagex IS trying to make their players happy even tho i passed my era of Runescape.

Btw i love the new gfx + new runecrafting guild.Guess that 55+ rc was worth it.
but still i wish i had that when i was playing ages ago,now it doesn't attract me as much before.

yeah i also played it 3 years ago but fell outta it. i tried playing it again like a week ago but the tutorial at the starting is too f**king long and boring and premium graphics aren't too much better, hate the controls, and also before i quit i had a level 93 guy that had one of the barrows armor and some other pimpin' gear. now that account doesn't work and it took me more then a year to get that other account so high so i gave up almost instantly when starting over. as for the wild thing, the only good it ever did me is when i could make descend profit off it selling monk robes to scared pvpers or just people exploring the place.

Runescape kicks SRs ass. Least theres way more to do, the quests take actual thought. Maybe thats why you hate it.

It doesn't matter what changes they make. The only people that will play runescape are the ones that play it now. They're trying to make changes in an attempt to stop the bleeding of players, but that will never work when they leave to go play better games and tell their friends about it.

Runescape needs to stop trying to change their formula so they can hold onto the small minority of mentally impaired that play the game that they have now.

Think "Like bread and butter"

Runescape is the piece of shit rotting bread with no butter.
Guess what the butter is...
Graphics.

TBH Maplestory has better graphics than Runescape

and..what dom said.

Edit:

Actually, to elaborate on what dom said..

The only reason people play Runescape is because they don't have the mental capacity to explore other games

You're right. The only thing we have to keep in mind is that within that logic: runescape has the worth of a "missing cat" flyer that someone stapled to a tree.

The farked up the whole trading system.

Sure, they needto think about scamming and preventing it and such, but they also gotta wathc the quality of the game.

Personally i still think they should put a cap to the items you can bring :banghead:

Such as not being able to bring more than 5k to the wildy (Incase you wish to purchase capes)

Put a cap to the number Arrows, Runes etc. you can bring to the wildy...In the beginning there was no reason to remove it. they just never took the time to think it thoroughly

Obviusly u havent seen the new graphics options.
I couldnt find a good image but this was one of the early beta screenshots, they didnt change the people at all back then but now they look more rollercoaster tycoon style.

The actual release

Then you compare it to this?

"The actual release" picture looks like it has little lowered options or maybe its because GIF

And Rs sure is better then MS.

---

I don't know why people are crying for the trading cap and GE.I love the GE and trading doesn't really affects me.

1. "I cant give my friend gifts or get some" Then you should work harder, not like everything will fall from the sky

2. "There's no drop party's !!!" So what you have the Party Hall and not like i got anything better from them.Actually i was more lucky at PP's hall.

3. "I cant merchant anymore omg i cant buy for low and sell for high anymore" Sucks to be you :D I always hated merchant. Now its so far easier to get rid of stuff in the GE and its so much easier to buy stuff.

4. "I cant share the stuff with my family" So what if your whole family plays ? I played games with my mom/father/brothers and i never asked them for their stuff in the game and neither did they ask me.

The only people stupid enough to play a game that relies so heavily on random number generation are the only ones who cares what changes occur to the game. For the people that already realize the RNG wipes any skill clean off the map have already moved on and unless they completely revamp the game into something that does not even remsemble Runescape at all to gain any new attention.
