Kid has nailed it. I used to have tons of friends who played, got in a great guild and had friendly leveling competitions. Ended up hitting level cap insanely fast, and barely every running PUGS because I had a great guild and there were always people to talk to.
The game was AMAZINGLY fun at this point. I quit for awhile went back to eq1/eq2. Tried to come back, with no friends and start over again and find another guild. The game was terribly boring and I ended up hitting level cap but was so bored with the whole entire game I sold the account and continued to play eq2.
I don't think the game sucks, I think it is rather fun. If you have the friends who play it, and can get on and have a good time grouping with friends and running instances or even BG's/arena then you should have fun. If you let the game get to serious and get stuck in a guild that is hardcore and has a reputation to uphold. If you get stuck running pre-mades and arena with people and all they can do is call people noobs and take the game way too seriously...Chances are you will quit this game.
ShizKnight said it best, the game is what you make it. I had some of my better MMO moments on this game and some of my worst. I have a huge background of MMO experience, and have played some of the best. The game has a great concept, has a pretty friendly community if you can find it and does a great job at keeping players interested. Just don't turn your WoW life into the pursuit of getting to the max level as fast as you can. Enjoy the game for what it is..
