Indeed. Only way i can fight them is keep my distance and shoot firebolts better than them.

Actually, what's better. The 15 dmg from light + effect or the 30 magicka dmg from diminishing weps.

Lightning kinda sucks. I have +25 fire/vamp on main hand dag and +25 ice/paralyze on offhand, drains like crazy though but that just means more enchanting lvls. Lightning doesn't drain mana at a fast enough rate. I think if you want vamp you should double vamp though because 25 is kinda tiny, 50 per dual swing can keep you in battle. Paralyze is crazy good on guys that take more than 2 power attacks to kill.

At level 50, I can't remember a memorable fight since lvl 40, everything just dies. If there's 10 enemies ice shout and kill 1by1 or sneak attack insta death, if there's a caster ice shout and just whack him and he's dead before he gets up. Dragons just put on resis, everything else just whack 3 times and they die. Ever highest difficulty doesn't scale well enough for how good gear becomes. I don't have that much of a problem with it, kinda monotonous but I deserve it, I spent 30 levels trudging through bears that 2 shotted me instantly.

Light is awesome, you crazy, melee enemies don't survive long enough to be of any relevance and casters can actually heal and ditch good damage that can force you to heal a lot, which in turn can lead to extended combat situations where you are kinda forced to melee each other and if you can mana drain them they won't be able to deal that good damage from spells or heal, thus ending it. I actually wouldnt dual wield life vamp as it voids the 138 default damage per swing you get with cold/light at enchant 100, healing only takes 1 second and more likely than not will have you at full health.

I also just tested this but I can 1 shot any non boss dragon in the game with my dual wield mace setup, plenty of damage to spare too. Can almost pull it off with 2 handed maces as well but not quite ( can be done with extra enchant/alchemy trickery ).

Important to note that if you have a good conjuration level, which is easy to obtain, you can summon ice elements or the melee demons to tank for you and which leaves you free to go all out offense, making life vamp setups less ideal and more of a gimmick.

I'm currently on the 8th thieve's guild quest, I love just being able to sneak behind somebody and slit their throats for 10000x damage :sohappy:

how do you not kill all casters with 2 hits? Your enchanting is definitely higher than me so you should have better gear than you, I have 100% from perks, 40% ring, 40% necklace, and 25% from gloves, 50% power attacks from perks and every caster in the past 10-15 levels die from 2 power attacks (or 2 power attacks into beg or mercy) on master difficulty. And paralyze procs often enough that fire for more dmg is better than lightning. Lightning isn't worth it because it doesn't drain all their mana before they die, so it's useless because they're dead. They don't have time to heal when the second power attack kills them. I agree vamp isn't useful, just saying if you want to go it you should do 2 because 1 is really bad.

We are talking mostly early game, finding an effective paralyze weapon ( which is a hard counter to just about every non huge unit ) isn't particularly easy but looking back I mostly engaged casters with magic, which allowed them to survive a bit more than they should have thanks to wards and whatnot, so your 2 shotting suggestion with melee is likely to be correct but then again you can't be everything early game and I went the caster route which made the scenario I described more common.

Also why use fire ? Stuff dies in about 2 power shots at a reasonable level anyways so no time for the burning to occur, flat damage makes kills more likely in those 2 power shots as one of the swings isn't wasted in applying the burn effect.

pretty sure fire spells do extra dmg to enemies on fire. so basically its not just a DoT it also increases dmg.

Oh, early game yeah lightning might be good, dunno never used it. Fire is for enemies that don't die in 2 hits since all enemies are in 2 groups now: dies in 2 hits, dies in 10+ hits. Fire lets me do 2-3 less hits on those super tanky monsters because it's the best dps out of all the enchants. It's not like I have anything to lose, when you get double enchant perk you have all the escape you need from ice/paralyze so the rest should just go to doing as much dps as possible for the tanks.

I've never tried +1h skill levels, dunno how much that changes anything.

I'm thinking about resetting all my perks since I find my "thief-like" build to be rather useless in a game like Skyrim. You're rarely in a situation where you have only one enemy that is dumb enough to not see you coming.

Felt the exact same, but I hear that as sneak levels up it gets better.

sneak is stupid when you have it maxed, if you also get the +10% blessing you can literally crouch and walk up to an enemy point blank in front of him and have enough time to power attack him for a sneak attack before he notices

blessing of nocturn in thieves guild, 8 hr limit so it's not really good. I dunno, I never bother with real sneaking since invis potions are so easy to make, I just chug one -> free sneak attack, chug another one -> free sneak attack.

oh and sneak really really sucks early game so take a couple illusion spells for cc

Meh ^^ I bought Skyrim and installed it today.
It runs at about 10-30 FPS for me ... at medium settings x___X
The game itself recommended high but that was even worse.

Anyone happens to have an idea of what could cause this?
I've got an intel i5-760 overclocked at 3,2 Ghz- a ATI sapphire HD 5770 vapor x and 8 GB of RAM (running it on a 19" screen, so no ridiculously high resolution or anything)

Magic is underpowered when compared to melee combat specially when you use smithing and/or enchanting.

I kill things faster on a higher difficulty level with swords when compared to magic and I die less.

The sneak perk for x3 sneak damage for bows is neat for any archer build. :D

SM quick response but fire by itself is indeed the highest dps enchant in the game, however when combined the 38 bonus damage from cold/shock provides higher dps than the burn effect, granted your target doesn't fly away.

On another note I just used storm call for the first time, so awesome =o, 2 words on it only and the thing destroys. I can see it killing a dragon by itself in under 3 minutes which is a big deal early on.

Something's wrong with your build dude. My specs are much lower and I run the game on high flawlessly (gaming laptop, 2 years old).

No clue what was wrong yesterday, but it works fine today luckily.
It's an awesome game so far.

Does Lydia come back to life after she dies by the way? She died fighting a giant and i've not seen her since, even though quite a lot of time has passed.

When Lydia dies, i always reload my game. She must survive!
I don't usually have much stuff on her, mostly soul gems because i enchanted her wep with Soul Trap(she has a katana atm ^^). That provides me with filled soul gems and i don't have to use this enchantment on my weps. Once i gave her 2 light staves, she didn't wanna use her katana at all so i don't carry any staves with me atm.

I'm thinking no enchant + elemental fury is the best dps by far now, your attack speed is absurd.

I killed Lydia on both my characters. :sohappy:

She kept staring at me while munching sweetrolls while I was sleeping.

She was only trying to make sure you didn't disappear off to an abandoned cabin again.

Lock picking is so easy, haha. Master lock took me about 6-7 lock picks- with lock picking at level 21.
