For those of you who have it. Is it worth it?
I would like to get one with Portal 2 and steam.
I don't really play console games all to often. I did when I had live though (yes i currently have an xbox that is broken but it is fixable).
idk I was thinking of buying a used one.
Is there a big difference between xbox and ps3?

xbox = game console
playstation 3 = game console + media center.
also the playstation is cheaper when you look at what you get and what you hyave to pay in the future. when you buy a playstation 3, you also buy a fully equipped blue ray player. also you don't have to pay for PS Network which saves you the money you would usually pay for Xbox Live. the xbox is also a great console, but I find the playstation more complete so to say. it just offers what more than the xbox.

xbox 360 has media aswell.
but listen to the majority that say ps3, but ps3 has unfixable jailbreaks., people that can hack any game with a simple usb, also ps3 has no competition.
You make your choice. Xbox 360 also has party chat which ps3 doesnt.

Hearing people argue about which is better is like arguing about what Ice-cream flavor is better. It is all up to you. Go to someone's house that has a PS3 and see for yourself. It's what you prefer.

Yea I know that. I have played PS3 a few times before. Just I would like to know from those who have one if they would recommend it. Plus it would be cool to have Steam on a PS3 with their whole buy 1 get copies for all systems that they support.

First thing:
We have been lenient with gaming topics in OTL. It's becoming too much and I pledge to move every new topic to that sub-forum.
About the topic:
The PS3's online is terrible. Connectivity is an issue (look at CODBO on XBOX vs PS3), there are no parties with voice chat, and because you can use any bluetooth mic, a lot of people have terrible ones that screech and can't transmit voice properly.
I don't say this because i'm an xbox fanboy. I like my PS3 more than my XBOX, but it's not very satisfying to try to play online with friends. For the XBOX it is really easy and very well made.
I like the PS3s controllers a lot more and I find the "OS" to be deeper and the GUI a lot better. But, that's subjective and that might not be the case for you.
If you buy used, I would highly suggest you get a PS3. The PS3s can fail, and the newer XBOXs aren't prone to fail as often, but when you buy used you don't know what you're getting. When an XBOX RRODs and you send it in, they send you back a repaired one and fix yours to send to someone else. RROD is caused by a design flaw - the one you get back is designed to fail again.
If you're planning to play online with friends, I would get a new XBOX. If you plan to do anything else, I would get a used PS3.
If there are exclusives you must play (for me: uncharted,MGS, GT) it should take priority and your decision would make itself.

Didn't think this would be fit for Other games sub-forum because it is not really a "game" but I will keep that in mind. Quote: About the topic:

I don't really play with friends so I guess this won't really effect me. Plus I don't plan on using a mic and will probably just mute people. Quote: I like the PS3s controllers a lot more and I find the "OS" to be deeper and the GUI a lot better. But, that's subjective and that might not be the case for you.

Well the main reason XBOX 360 fail is because microsoft is using a cheaper grade thermal paste. Friend has a first gen 360 has yet to fail. All they did was put AC on the chips. And microsoft will not take off the X-Clamps when they repair the xbox because they can bend easily and so on. Quote: If you're planning to play online with friends, I would get a new XBOX. If you plan to do anything else, I would get a used PS3.
If there are exclusives you must play (for me: uncharted,MGS, GT) it should take priority and your decision would make itself. Well I can fix my Xbox just been too lazy to do it. Requires tinfoil and Thermal Paste so things sit evenly after years of probably a ton of heat and things have warped (Only get 2 lights after 20 min of playing. I had it going for 3 days straight with that tinfoil fix just didn't have enough layers and been too lazy to add more.) I own a PS1 and enjoyed it. The controller does feel nice in your hand. Plus I heard they were going to make it so you could plug in a mouse and keyboard. But that was just a rumor.

You make your choice. Xbox 360 also has party chat which ps3 doesnt. What is all I have to say to that post. "Jailbreak" is what I guess everyone will call the hacking situation from Geohotz' stupid ass name for it, but whatever let's ignore the name. All 3 consoles are easily hacked and open to piracy. The Wii is able by having a game and a SD card. The 360 is but with a modchip. PS3 is with a dongle or custom firmware. Do take note that ALL THREE can detect whenever you are running anything illegal. Either way that isn't a reason why not to buy a console. Sadly enough it's a reason to buy a console to some. I was going to make a tl;dr post, but dom pretty much summed up what I was going to say. Aside from PS3 can be cheaper to you.

I haven't had any issues with my PS3 as of yet, the games are great and feel great with the controller. I love using it for media playback and streaming movies/animes from my PC. I believe the system is well worth the investment!

It's a pretty invalid argument nowadays. The biggest difference is exclusives, I'm not mixing in the wars (besides that ^) so yeah. Exclusives and the blu ray player I guess. If you like watching movies besides gaming once in a while it sure is worth it.

I've played online with the PS3 and if that's the experience, I am willing to pay monthly for XBOX live. I find the fees for the service rather reasonable too - it's the cost of a lunch.

80 bucks a month for internet? Wow canada is farked up...We pay around the same in euro's (like 50-55 euro a month) and we get tv/phone and internet (25mbit without limit) for that o.O heroo wrote: but I find it quite ridiculous to pay 200 euro's for a console, 60 euro's for a game and after all this I also have to pay to play online -.- xbox live should be free. Well it's only 5 euro a month, and there are places where you can order it and it's even cheaper than 60 euro. If XBL was free it would be just as bad as ps3's PSN (and no I'm not saying it always sucks). /Edit: is 50-55 euro even 80 bucks? Might be even cheaper lol, in other words

Well it's like 16 cents a day. It's nothing, but it can add up in the end.

But that could be due to there being loads of different providers so the prices are low.

I just realized that part of my point is useless because you need to pay for internet to play online with PS3/XBOX too. You guys should have jumped on that.

I has both (my dad + bro play PS3, I play xbox) and i feel that both systems have ups and downs, but yeah go for the PS3 if you really want it lol. i just hate my xbox because it basically demolishes my disks, yet I digress. anyway, ps3 is fun, plays blu ray which is cool, and has some great exclusives, xbox has live, nuff said. If I were to start over, I'd weigh it like this: If you want to play with friends a lot, I would go xbox (assuming you have friends to play with on live), however if you couldn't/don't have friends who play live, I would 100% go PS3.

I guess I do most of my gaming on my PC but it is nice to play with a controller and lay back. Like I'm sure I would actually finish Mass Effect if I had it for xbox or ps3.
