Welll I've gotten to that point in life where I'm starting to hate school and wonder if college is even worth it....I get the grades and I can get into most colleges...not ivy league, and some schools would even offer scholarships.
But, I've starting thinking....is college even worth it? $30,000 a year just to get some peice of paper saying you graduated from such and such school? I mean $120,000 can get you alot of stuff and you can use that money for other things, such as investing. Only reason I've put up with my high school is because of well, the easy girls, but most importantly swimming. And that's the only reason for me to even go to college.
I don't plan to drop out, but what is the point of college?

it's not easy to get a job in the real world without a college degree. there's always competition for getting a job, and most of that competition will have degrees and will get the job if you don't have one. It all depends on what line of work you're going to be going into

Theres a lot of colleges that dont cost 30k a year. Those are higher end colleges. Some very good schools can go for 16k a year, plus scholarships help a lot.

Besides it would only pay what half a year of college? As of now I've started looking for schools outside the U.S that happpen to be cheap and offer a swimming program.

You should forget about the swimming program and go for something that's affordable with a quality education, and look for swimming programs after. Every university has recreational swimming programs anyways. The only reason I can think of that swimming would be important than education, was if you were training to be an olympic athlete - in that case you would have full scholarships anyways. Be realistic with your life decisions, do you really think swimming right now is going to be more important than an education and resulting career later, for the vast majority of your life?

It's all about what you would like to do with your life.
Some people don't need a degree to do what they would LIKE to do. I don't think it's a matter of how much cash you make, but if you enjoy what you do.
If you're passionate about what you're planning on doing in the future with the degree, then just finish.
If you have no Idea why you picked your path, then you probably shouldn't be there.

college is one of those fun experiences of your life... you should go even if you are a billionaire.
no excuse for not going unless you are old and senile.

One thing you might want to consider,
If college costs $120,000 in the US, investing that amount of money and saving up while working after you graduate for a couple years, you'd have enough money to start a franchise business, like a pizza hut or something like that.

yes I had the exact same feeling when I completed highschool But I really enjoyed my University experience, although it was expensive. yes I hate exams and I hate assignments, but its more than that, the things you learn and the people you meet is totally worth it. come to Canada They teach you how to build igloos in the winter

You'll never get a job along those lines if you don't have a degree. Plus anyway college is fun. You'll meet alot of people there from all over. That last part makes me regret choosing Vanderbilt over NYU

college is the best time of your life!!!!
and if you pick a shitty one the first time around...**** it, you can always transfer. i went to 3 different schools over 8 years. one in the mountains (co), one in the city (ny), and one by the beach(fl). every one of them was unique in its own way and every one partied hard!!!!! i even ended up with a couple of dgrees to show for it, but who cares, i made life long friends and had some amazing experiences i wouldn't trade for the world!!!!!!!!!!
@dom...a pizza hut? c'mon man...there's alot better shit to invest in than a pizza hut!!!

Wow I just watched the movie "Accepted" and the main character uses a similar logic of how college isn't worth it. Well anyways college is worth it if you have the grades. Well true you could make $120,000 in four years or pay $120,000 in four years. But think in the long run, making $30,000 a year isn't really worth it when you've got the brains to make more. After college and good grades you could make a lot more than $30,000. And by the facts you've given you seem smart enough to make that possible. Furthermore investing in businesses does require knowing what to do and how to run it. Sure there are people who have not gone to college and become successful. But in the end their life was a lot harder than your would be if you finish the 4 or 6 years of college. Quote: I don't plan to drop out, but what is the point of college? Yes this is an answer everyone gives you. What is the point? To get a better future. To get a great paying job straight out of college. However this is 100% true.

Not saying to neglect the classes, but realize that they're only a small part of the experience.
