the world ended, but we are transported to another dimension where SRO is run by a wonderful company called JOYMAX
the game works perfectly, no bugs at all, everyone loves each other, shares and helps each other, there is no word for bots(they dont exist here), you can always log on with your char, money drops are great, sos drops for every one, Joymax gives lots of free silk items and often has sales for silk items even though the normal prices are almost free, no one asks you for money in game (except most often you do get frustrated because people are always trying to give you money), people are always asking you if you want to be power level'd for free, or they will pay you to lvl you. in the ctf every one knows how to play well, the teams are so equal, one team just barely wins, when it is over, everyone shares all there prizes so everyone including warrior, clerics, bards, warlock, get the same amount of prizes
and in the real world, there is world peace, everyone lives in a big house, has plenty of money, food, and whatever they want too

GET'CHO ASS BACK TO GD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They're basically trying to recreate the Big Bang to see what took place after it. They're not really looking for anything in particular but they hope to unravel many unanswered questions about our universe.

You'll actually have to wait til October to find out if it will destroy the world. Today, from what I know, they were only sending one particle through it, basically testing it. October is when they'll start sending two particles from opposite ends and actually doing the testing.

Mr blackfox, they didn't collide the particles yet. They just did a test to see if the beam would go in the way they hope, on october 21 the real experiment is done.
BTW, I was search youtube and wow.. there are so many idiots in the world, it's unbelieveable. Here's one;

I was listening to Robert Aymar's (Director of CERN) speech this morning. Every time he said "energy" the only thing I could understand through the accent was "an L Gee," and was like WTF is a LG
As many have said here they won't be getting into collisions for awhile - it's still in test. The LHC is 7 times more powerful than any other now but when it reaches the efficiency it was designed for (expected in 2010) it will be 30 times more. CERN has been around for 54 years now, there are 20 different countries (mostly European) involved in the cooperation. They are the leading researchers in particle and energy physics.
The thing that is more exciting to me than the possibility of mass destruction (the non-existent possibility that is) would be the collaboration of the top scientists worldwide toward a unified goal. The Colliding-beam-machine works by accelerating positively and negatively charged particles in opposite directions and they hope to better understand the building blocks of matter.
Basically they want to make "new" particles. There are hundreds of millions of detectors used to find out where these 'new' particles go, where they stop and what types of energies are involved. Quoting the CERN press kit:
Quote:
Different forces act between the particles. The strong force, the electromagnetic force and gravity glue the particles together into bigger structures, from the invisibly small atoms to huge galaxies of millions of stars. The weak force changes particles and atoms from one type to another, as in reactions that fuel the sun. The forces are themselves carried by particles that are different from the particles of matter. Force-carrying particles have only a fleeting existence as they carry information from one matter particle to another.
Several real puzzles have stymied scientific research when they look to the stars. The major question is about the total mass of the universe. They've predicted that the "bricks" of matter (quarks) would have zero mass only then to find out the prediction wasn't true. Not only do the 'bricks' of matter have mass they have highly different amounts of mass. The LHC will generate sufficient energy to be able to give insight into the question. Why do we only have matter and anti-matter? What about "dark matter"? Scientists "know" it's out there.
CERN has already given us many different "spin-off" technologies. Detector research has given us Medical Imaging and medical treatments are underway. You may have heard of Massively Parallel Processing in the computer industry, this too came from CERN. The WEB was originally used for communication between scientists. Scientists of the future go to CERN for training. I would expect that the collaboration of these efforts will produce greater results than the world can imagine.
~Granps
About the possibility of the universe being destroyed, Walter Wagner and Luis Sancho have filed a lawsuit: Sancho v. U.S. Department of Energy et al, but the scientists state that the District Court of Hawaii does not have jurisdiction over them.
