Well my mom's thinking of buying a new notebook; a macbook air.
Idk much about it, because i'm not that much into apple. thing
is, a shop here has the OLD macbook air for 1350 euro, but there's
a new one coming up soon which will cost 1700 euro. can anyone
give us some advice on this?

and please, no mac vs windows crap :x

price/performance is no good. If she wants a good small laptop get a Lenovo IdeaPad.

The performance for the price is no where near worth it. With that being said, if you have money to spare and don't mind paying more for novelty than go for it. I definitely know that if I had the money I would buy one right away.

yeah that's the point, i mean it's not like my mom actually
needs the laptop tbh, she got a 2 year old benq laptop that
still functions well enough for her word and outlook programs.

she just wants a stylish, thin laptop. i'd just like to know
a couple of opinions :] thnx for the input so far ;]

and as a last addition, also in the first post, would you
guys rather pay 1700 for the new one, or 1350 for the old
one? do they really differ in performance etc so much?

anybody here actually used it btw?

Also, sorry cin, I'm not sure, but since you're mom's a mom, I'd advise her to save herself some money and buy the current one, the next one will probably be the same but just with like a harddrive update or something unneccessary, but check it out yourself first, maybe they somehow were able to integrate a cd player into it.

If you are willing to dump big bucks on a thin laptop, you should definitely go for the Voodoo Envy 133. Good performance plus thinnner then the Air and sleek.

If you don't want to pay the price get an Asus Eee Laptop or MSI Wind. Much cheaper, very small and probably equivalent power to the Air.

Don't go for the Lenovo. It's Voodoo or the netbooks, those are the only ones worth it for ultraportable laptops.

Got the money then wait and get the air, since your mom likes the thin notebooks and lightweightedness

or just get the old ones, lett your mom see both the new laptops first, so then she can compare and contrast, since shes the one that wants one

Before you read im going to assume your mom has about the same knowledge of pcs that my mom does. (eg. know how to navigate GUI, knows most basic-medium stuff with word processing and other office apps, turn on/off etc.)

If she gets a Macbook Air then she will have to learn how to use Macs which while are simple, are far too simple that i find stuff too hard. (here i am looking for stuff in menus and it turns out i just had to drag and drop).

If she doesnt need it too then why spend all that cash?

Get a smaller, cheaper UMPC running windows such as: (most these are similiar specs to macbook air)

ASUS EEE 701

Dreambook IL3[img]

^ Idiot ^

Cin, have her buy a normal macbook, it saves her 700euro. The Air is not worth it at all.

The EEE's of the world severely suck, i sell them, i can't imagine anyone taking that over a regular laptop. There's so much you just can't do. There a bit popular with subscriptions atm, but still. Specially the Acer one is rubbish.

Don't dare taking an EEE over a regular laptop, i'll personally come burn your house down for that much stupidity.

A regular laptop, you mean a non portable product that cannot be placed in a packaging product, usually made of flat, planar material such as paper or cardboard?

Tell me one thing you cant do with an EEE running windows?

Most EEE's don't run windows, the one's i sell surely don't. The ones whe sell here run an adapted version of Linux, which severly lack functionality.

Cardboard laptops would be bloody awesome btw. You could draw your own desktop.

I was referring to the macbook air ad lol.

All the recent EEE's run windows default and all versions cud run windows out of the box instead of Xandros anyway.

Im not much of a laptop person anyway, always have used desktop PCs and if i ever get a UMPC (seriously considering eventually getting 1 but a smart phone with QWERTY keyboard and WM6.1 is looking a better option mainly so i can upgrade my phone) i will have to take a mouse with me, luckily i get a logitech G5 wired mouse now anyway.

mmm. cool ;p not really.

Nah i'm not a fan of the air, i like the innovative way of transfering data. But lets be realistic, a laptop without cd/dvd drive is just silly.

Buy this 3 times > Mac book air.

Whose with me on this? Btw just a random laptop I grabbed off tigerdirect, but I'd still go with 6 laptops that are actually worth it than one piece of shit that can go "Hey look I can fit my laptop into this envelope!"

Spending 1.5k usd for a laptop that is just under an inch in size.. or something that is like 3 inches that actually has everything for a third of the price. Mm..
