When you kill an obelisk (the statue things with weird names) there is a chance you are debuffed, buffed or a mob spawns. Sometimes elites, champions, giants, etc.

Ah I had a feeling it was those things doing it same thing happened 2 me was hiting me for like 13k damage lol.

It's an epic bot cleanser. Spawn a level 99 elite and let it pave the area. Lure it wherever you want and watch the INT bots with no snow shield get 1 hit. Fun times.
