i spoke with gargamel about that some years ago... he said:

that the char was created with that high lvl and becuz he didnt lvl up, there is the noob sign, but its not about hit lvl 20, its about to lvlup 20 TIMES ! so it can go away even if the char ist created with lvl 50... at lvl 70 the sign will be gone...

atleast this is what i remember

and i dont mean to be a buzz kill to you but a lvl 96 killing a lvl 30 unique isnt special at all. it happens all the time
