Don't be a dumbass like me and wait until April to start dealing with college applications... didnotgowell.
Filling out an app to the school you've always wanted to go to and then realizing you missed the deadline does not feel good.

J/w if you guys have taken SAT before what did you score, this will be my first time and I scored a 155 S.I. in PSAT. I'm expecting about 1300 my first time, I wanna hit the average of about 1500 though.

Anyone else doing it also? Class of 2011? Class of 2012, but all that still applies, other than college essays lol. need recs for college courses/research, need to take SATs + SATIIs, and all this stuff sucks!

I might do Community College my first 2 years or just my first year too...just to kinda get adapted to college and to save up a little bit of money. But If I get any scholarships anywhere else I'll consider going to a different college.

I can get 1900 pretty easily. I'm great at math and writing, it's just the critical reading that I'm not that good at.

I disagree partially because there are some great CUNYs(City College of New York City) like Hunter and Baruch. However there are some community colleges that do not provide that much as other schools, so yea I guess Community College isn't really great unless you Have to go there. I would only suggest community college if you had serious issues that happened during high school or you feel like your high school education sucks balls and you're not ready for college.
I know ppl that did fine in high school and decided to take it easy in college. They regret as they are stuck with ppl who can't figure out how to write a proper essay. She showed me some of the stuff she had to grade and it was like reading a story written by a adhd 5 year old. Almost everyone i talked to regrets going to community college. It's really only good if you had a lot of trouble and you want a slow ease or to rebuild your transcript for college.

Yea a writing portion was added to the test. Apparently I have to re-take the PSAT since I did good on it last year when I took it, so gotta take that today should be good practice. Also a friend told me they made me retake it because in 11th when you take it you have a chance of getting a National Merit scholarship is that true?

SAT on the west coast? hmm I guess there are people who take SATs there, where are you from? Here in New York City, everyone takes the SATs.

Yea so apparently only the top 10-20 scorers from my school were picked to take it for free again, I had a cold and didn't get a good nights rest since I had to go somewhere last night, don't think I did too good. But my teacher said if you have a good score compared to the average of the area you live in you could get it! I did good in math but CR screwed me over again need to improve my vocab.

Senior year was a pain in the ass. At the end of the day, I was lucky enough to be accepted by Berkeley, Cornell, NYU, Michigan, UCLA, UT, USC, and a few other mid-range schools. I'm now a happy freshman at Ann Arbor (Harvard of the West ) - as Michigan has a drastically better business school than any of the other universities I applied to. I say all of this very thankfully as I slacked off big time during high school; only my SAT/ACT scores and essays saved me from a run-of-the-mill state school. Advice I can offer: get a few solid teacher recommendations (preferably one from a liberal arts teacher and one from a math/science), and make sure that your teacher actually knows who you are and enjoyed having you in their class. Having a generic teacher recommendation is almost as bad as not having one at all -- insiders will tell you that time and time again. Make sure you have enough extracurricular activities on your resume - it helps big time if you actually held a position in whatever club you may have been in, as opposed to just being another peon who paid their $5 dues. Colleges don't really look too deep into your extracurricular activities as long as they weren't a) anything ridiculously spectacular (such as winning the ISF) or b) you barely had any at all. It's one of those things where it doesn't really help you too much if you have a whole swarm of clubs on your resume, but if you don't, it can end up hurting you. Lastly, don't wait until the last moment to turn in your applications. Colleges really don't like that. I think the Common App deadline for us last year was at the very beginning of November or something, but it helps if you don't wait until midnight on October 31st to submit your final touches. Good luck!
