I have attempted to upload a saved Fraps movie file ( .avi format) but after is uploaded I get an error message....

Failed (Unsupported Codec)

I am a bit confused :?

I can view on my pc, it is .avi which YouTube say is supported, so why won't it work?

This is what I've done.

Fraps movie is saved and uploaded, that is all.

Could someone give a good "n00b friendly" explanation of why, in case there is a step I have ommitted?

PLZ :)

I hate AVI's because they may be .avi but they can be encoded with like 30 different codecs that I know of. The best option would be to throw it into windows movie maker that comes with XP and just re-encode the whole thing as a variable bitrate WMV file (third option from the bottom I think) I just opened FRAPS and was amazed to find that you can't pick what codec it uses! I assumed U had Divx or Xvid or something installed and it used that codec to encode it but there would be a way to change it in FRAPS if it was able to use other codecs. So I have no idea why it encoded it the way it did so I would use Bulent's Screen Recorder instead. It's much faster and lets U choose what codec to use (though they call it "compression" on the config menu)

The file I saved and uploaded is 77MB, with YouTube's max. being 100MB so it is ok for size.

Thnx for your thoughts chaud.

Also I thank you deso for your help :)

I believe the encoding is the problem but I am still stuck.

I'm using WMM2 and can't see any otion to re-encode the darned thing.

Yeah, I have DivX installed but YouTube says that DivX is perferrable.

I'm such a n00b I can't even see how to use DivX encoding

(I only downloaded DivX after striking problem - and is the free version)

I'll go and keep trying to find the way to encode to a different codec using WMM2.

DivX encoder gives me an error message when I attempt to encode the existing captured file....

:!: Invalid Video Stream

The DivX Converter cannot encode the input file :
D:\Fraps\movies\adh_bot_1.avi because it contains an invalid video stream.

For more info etc......

Could someone plz help?

Thanks again chaud.

I am getting really frustrated now :banghead:  :banghead:

I follow the guide  I use virtualdub1.3c  I follow directions and still am confused.

As I complete each stage in the virtualdub process (ie. select video>fast recompress, then audio>full processing, then video>compression (selecting the DivX 6.4.0 codec), then audio>compression (mpeg3 codec) and then hit the OK button and nothing happens :banghead: :banghead:

WTF am I doing wrong?

How can it be this hard to sort this?

I don't really use divx cuz it's so laggy at rewinding because of the actually half intelligent way they encode it. Same with Xvid except it's not intelligent at all and takes FOREVER to skip around in a video file.
As for the encoding options in WMM2, they do a really good job of hiding the options :P After importing the movie, with the split into scenes or whatever checkbox unchecked, drag it onto the timeline and go to save movie file and press next until U see the screen that says "Best quality playback for my computer" Click the show more choices hyperlink under it and tada :P The best one I've found is the variable bitrate because when a whole bunch of stuff is moving it just raises the bitrate instead of making it all go to crap and it saves on space by lowering the quality on non-moving objects in a video :) That option is called "High quality video (NTSC)" and should be third from the bottom.

Have followed all these steps and appears to be encoding right now :)

But I have selected the 3rd from the bottom option which says High Quality Video (PAL)

I thank you guys greatly for your efoorts, will get back with update on progress asap *thumbs up*

Use Bulent's Screen Recorder 3, there's no time limit and it's super high res without taking up tons of resources (then again I have a dual core lol) but it's at least much faster than FRAPS, plus it works outside of games.
http://www.thesilver.net/
and I'd just find a website to stick the video on because pretty much all video hosting services shrink it down to crap resolution. Do any of your friends own websites? If it's a short term kinda thing, you can upload it at yousendit.com and 25 people can download it for 7 days before it's removed but at least it's top quality.

OK, lots of ideas there :)

I have a website albeit with limited space but I think I could host a few movies of botting azzholes without overdoing my free space

Yeah, my dual core tends to make life so much slicker too :D

I'll have a closer look at Bulent's software tonight, thanks again for the help everyone has offered in this thread.........it's appreciated.
