Just thought we could all share the different tools we use to customize our desktops, such as skins, themes, icons and all that crap.

Windows themes

Icons

Steam skins

foobar themes

For wallpapers http://4walled.cc/
For mouse cursor http://hitman7112.deviantart.com/art/To ... -155620953
For vlc skin http://aaron-a-arts.deviantart.com/art/ ... -189826507

My current desktop
Spoiler!

I use this program for some minor desktop fixes like modifying the startup screen and removing shortcut arrows (cause they're gynormous and ugly in w7 D:)
Tweaknow Powerpack 2011: http://download.cnet.com/TweakNow-Power ... 29662.html

I use this as my startup screen:
Spoiler!

I made it myself, though it's not really great I guess...

But other than that I haven't really made any modifications on my PC. All the nice looking ones seem like they take away from functionality >.<

Ever since the search function has been integrated into the Start menu and actually works fast I don't really use my desktop anymore. I randomly switch out some photos from Norway as background and that's it. :)

I could never understand why people don't customize their personal computer. I can't stand it unless everything is just the way I like it to be, but that's just me.

Me too. But atm, I have no custom skins or anything, i've gotten a bit lazy lately and I should tidy things up a bit. Looking at your pics made me want to get some custom skins and stuff. :)

In my case I simply got used to the standard interface. It's not that I don't want it more pretty, but doing so will often make it harder to use. Functionality and Aesthetics always clash.

For instance your taskbar seems to have all the stuff centered, meaning whenever you open something new, All the items in the taskbar change their position, meaning you can never really develop a sense for where you can quickly click.
All the fancy themes also require you to basically not have anything on your desktop for it to look pretty.

considering this is basically what my desktop looks like:
Spoiler!

You can probably understand that I won't be happy if I get separated from my desktop shortcuts :P

I think they're all in Sol Miler's placebo theme http://solmiler.deviantart.com/art/Plac ... -188414149
When you download it there's a tools folder with the orb changer and some other goodies

Actually when I open a new program it just opens up normally, on the right to the other icons. Nothing moves. Can't remember who posted the nifty little trick to get your icons to the center in the desktop thread.

I guess it just comes down to personal preferences. I've never liked icons on my desktop, I like it completely empty. That way I can actually see my wallpaper (Amanda Seyfried   )

double post

Because some people use their computer on their own ways, and have no time for fancyness.

They are just called orbs because the original one is like an orb. :)

Clean desktop
Spoiler!

Open windows
Spoiler!

Just the classic desktop customization stuff: Rainmeter, rocketdock, custom Win7 theme. The Rocketdock I only use for quick access to my Nostromo keypad, Naga mouse, PS3 gamepad (via motionjoy), and speakers (Ferox 2.0). Otherwise, the good old slimmed-down version of the taskbar would do jut fine.

Can't be bothered to find the perfect theme even since I've had this new laptop at the end of summer. I used to have so much time to spend researching and modding the f out of this lol. :(
