Post subject: My Guild Bots...Should I Leave? Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 8:56 am |
|
Hi, I'm New Here |
 |

I'm somewhat in a moral delimma.
I do not wish to disclose my IGN, server, or guild but I am an active member of this forum and iSRO. I, personally, have never participated in botting or anything considered against the rules when it comes to SRO.
My guild is pretty active. We do many trade runs and many thief runs. I like the people and have faith in their abilities.
Recently, I've come across information that a certain person in my guild is a botter. I've had suspicions of my own since this person hardly ever answers PM's or guild/union chat while grinding. And they seem to have LOTS of gold in game. This is a person that I've thieved, traded, and hunted with on many many occasions. I consider them a good player, trustworthy and a major asset to the union. This person is not one of those 24hr botters that rely on botting to get the job done. They're very active and play legitimately almost all of the time. This person also spreads items throughout the guild to help others.
Am I supporting botting by turning my head? Should I leave this guild? Does this make me apart of a botting guild? Is there really a bot-free guild out there?
I can't kick this person from the guild, I don't have that authority. Other people in the union know of this person's botting. I don't think many people on the server know, if so, I haven't heard anyone accuse this person of botting. The person has recognized the fact that others have accused them of botting and portrayed an image of disdain for botters. Which makes me question the authenticity of these accusations since nobody has hard proof and this person is an active player.
What are you guys' opinions?

As for me, i actually don't give a dam about botters. I have enaugh friends in friend list to talk to, since bots don't reply
Once it was fun when i was running arround a spot fast grinding with my nuker char, and suddenly one guy asked me "bot?", so i answered "hell yeah, of course". Funny though, most people are so afraid of that word "bot"

Not that hard really. I know several on Xian who work hard to keep a bot free environment. And they don't have to work hard at that. If you wanna be in a guild full of 60+ those are the ones it is tough to keep clean. But if you are looking for a good fun crew to roll with. There are plenty.

If hes in your party and doesn't reply, he probably bots.
If hes AFK in guild chat and his GP is going up, he probably bots.
If your guild is getting a lot of tells for it, he probably bots.
You could excuse some with 'closed chat window' or 'talking to someone else' , but this would be a repeated sign that keeps reoccurring. Its not that hard to tell. You have the upper hand - your in the same guild.
People dont 'stop' botting. Once you bot, its like going back to grinding without the double XP ticket - Its miserable.

Few days later we caught em botting again and theres no way hes getting back in the guild now, though I think he quit the game after that. Quote: Just stay in the guild and worry bout yourself, you aren't the one botting he is so just leave it alone.
Actually a botter in ur guild can ruin a guilds reputation, especially if ur trying to keep ur guild legit.

Thanks for the level-headed replies. I appreciate it.
Quote: Confron the users with it, tell your guild leader and say kick the botter or i leave etc.. Smile I'm not going to confront this person. They've already denied botting to the entire union and I'm not as close of a friend where they would trust me with such information if it were in fact true. Quote: During one of those times they are not responding and you suspect them of botting take a post at the most likely exit of the town they are closest to. And wait till they pass by. It will happen eventually. When they do follow them keeping an eye out for tell tail bot behavior. Things like stopping at regular intervals and walking paths you have seen other bots walk. Wall and obstruction humping. Run around in front of them talking to them. Don't accuse them of anything just talk. If they are really there etc why would they not take the time to at least say hi? If they don't respond follow them to where they train. Watch the mobs they target. Try targeting the same one and attacking it before they do. If they re-target with inhuman speed. Well you know what that means. And even if they don't if you keep it up and they leave all the drops on the monsters you attack as well. Especially if they have not asked you what is up by now. They are botting.
Once you have real evidence contact the GM with it and ask for action. I can't follow them. They've been accused of botting in the caves and I'd get eaten alive in there. The person is much higher level than I, so we don't hunt the same mobs. I would assume that this person doesn't use the uber-lazy botting method (bots that walk around town and stop in the exact same places and create lines at NPCs). Like I said, this is a very active person with many friends/enemies (enemies due to wars, not botting) and if they did use the lazy bot, someone would have pointed this out a LONG time ago. Even if I did catch them botting, I wouldn't report to GM. This is a good person who helps the guild and union significantly. Quote: Being part of a guild that bots is almost as bad as botting yourself. Yes, I thought of that, also. Which was my main delimma. Quote: I don't think you should leave because of that. If the person were a leach and did nothing but 24/7 botting, then I would say thats a good idea to leave. Instead he helps make the guild prosper and from what you said has helped you and other people out when in need.
Which is why I've decided to stay and keep quiet. This person is a big asset to the union and doesn't bot 24/7.
Yes, I do believe this person bots. No, I don't have proof. No, I do not condone botting (I KS them as much as possible). However, I've decided to stay on account of this person's good actions and overall activeness.
One person who bots in the guild does not make the guild a botting guild. I actually think that this person is botting solely to help the guild. There have been occasions where a lvl 70 would rape our trade and this person couldn't kill that guy despite the fact that they are the strongest in the guild. Those types of situations have actually led me to close my masteries gap down to only 3 so that i can level up a lot faster. This person has good motives in mind.
They are more than ready to share their riches with anyone in the union. I also think that their motivation is to crush all that challenge us, not to laugh in the face of legit users. Yes, botting is bad, but I can turn the other way if its for a good cause.
Thanks to everyone for your replies and votes.

Your guild doesn't bot. That one guy does. Lol big deal. Especially if he still participates in the clan activities, and gives gold and items to needy guild/union members.
Call him out, tell him what you think. I doubt he'll care though lol.
If I were you..............................................I'd not give a shit. It's ONE guy in your guild. Who helps out other guild members, I'd remind you.
But if it offends you that badly, I guess you've got to leave. Dumb reason IMO though.

It doesn't matter if one or all of your guild members bot. If someone gets caught botting, then your guild is "a bot guild," to other people.

I agree with most of the remarks made in this thread, though I do not believe that you should really care much about what others think about your guild. If it's just a person botting for a good cause, then it's okay in certain areas.
First of all a botting guild is only a botting guild when the whole guild bots. If you want to make sure look up a dictionary for the term guild. If one person or a few people in the guild bots does not make the guild a botting guild. Unless the majority of the people in the guild bots.
Blackchocob0 wrote: ..if it offends you that badly, I guess you've got to leave. Dumb reason IMO though.
I agree with this statement. In fact, it shouldn't bother you unless the bot is interupting 'your gamplay'. If not I should consider to keep your mouth shut. I am not against botting, nor am I with it. But I do despise the fact that the majority of the people playing the game make the situation bigger than what it really is. I understand that botting is cheating but if the player plays most of the time it shouldn't cause you to 'hate' the player.
I understand both botters and legit players. I understand and accept 'some' reasons why people bot, and I understand and accept legit players. But most of the players should take into consideration that 'players botting isn't the end of the world' - just stop acting like someone is dieing when you see someone botting. I hate to see so many hypocrites in the game.
Note: Saying that one person in the guild bots makes the guild a botting guild is like saying, if my uncle smokes my whole family smokes which will gve my family the name 'smokers, or smoking family'. DIDIDAH! what kind of idiot are you if you think like that?

Well, if a guild allows botters then I would call it a botter guild. Even though the majority don't bot. But hey, that's me. Irrational and way too much botter hostile for my own good I guess.
If you really were sure about him botting, then I know I would confront both him and my guildleader. If he didn't get kicked out then, I would leave.
You can't choose the way other plays the game but you can choose who to play with.

I usually consider one person botting in the guild to mean the guild is botting because usually theres at least one other person thats botting because botting can spread like wildfire in a guild. Ive seen it before where one person started botting in a guild and more and more started to also.
However u can argue that one person botting doesnt mean the entire guild bots, but if one person in a guild bots then the guild cannot possibly be considered a legit guild if they let a player they kno bots to be in the guild.

That's called zealousy(SP?). It's gotten thousands upon thousands of people throughout history murdered. You're kinda dumb.

Scamm away his items. Ask him to borrow shit and then run away with them. Botters dont deserve items.

well if you enjoy the company of the people then i wouldn't suggest leaving the guild because nearly all the guilds would have atleast 1 botter now a days.
