I +5'd my 52 SoS Sword and shield without astral but i bought both of them with immortal. I would never of tried to +5 a sosun w/o immortal...
But anyways congrats on your great alchemy luck

OMG. I'm more amazed at the crit. I didn't know such was possible for a bow.

It only does Durability Reduce not Increase.

Not really, anything over +5 that fails takes either an immortal or steady. It's not a question if you lose either, it's which of the two you will lose. So a 50% chance of losing a steady, and if there's no steady, you get durability reduce (the 'red' stat)
I have failed to go from +4 to +5 pleny of times to know that if you fail to go from +4 to +5 you don't lose a steady
