i've just recently downloaded silkroad, and it took me 2 days cause of various problems with downloading. and now, i finally got it going, but when i get to the character creation screen and click on create, the program blacks out, then whites out and stops responding. is there anything i can do to fix this? i've been looking forward to playing this for the past two weeks and now this is all that's happening...

could you post some info on your pc?

like pc specifications (processor, RAM, etc)

oh and go to START -> RUN and type "dxdiag"
you will get a popup screen. go to tab 3; Display and copy paste
the info on your graphix card :)

what programs did you run during this dxdiag?

because your pagefile uses 1085 out of 1195 MB

Please make a run with only windows running, nothing else

ok this is better, what graphic card do you use?

Is it directx10 compatible, I saw that your directx version is directx10

But I could not see a directx10 compatible video card

edit: do you have 32 or 64 bit windows?

well, i just got this computer about... let's say 2 weeks ago. it comes with an intel graphics media accelerator driver called i think Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family, but i'm not sure. we bought a geforce (forget what version) to use on my old pentium 3, but we returned it after getting this pentium d dual because my uncle, who works with cpu's, said that i wouldn't need it with this new computer and i played last chaos for 2 weeks with this intel graphics acclerator and it worked like a charm and now i decided that SRO is what i want to play for the rest of the summer.

weird :(

hmm, here is a link were you can find some older version of the driver as well:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_ ... a&lang=eng

Or maybe you can do a driver update in the device manager from windows, just let him find a new driver on the internet

I don't know if windows vista still has a device manager btw, I haven't played around with it to much

Btw, don't you have windows xp installed on your pc, otherwise I would try playing sro on windows xp.

Just to see if it works...

i'll try the direct X thing... i installed 9, but i guess it didnt take effect since direct X 10 was already installed... so i'll uninstall 10 and try 9 again. I ran compatibility mode, but it didn't work, i'll have to try the 98 one suggested. but i can't really test it right now saying that there's too much server traffic and i always get disconnected after it says too much server traffic =\

like truez says, it is not always working on windows vista,

so I don't think you have to try it that hard, just do the directx thing,

otherwise I would say install windows xp or some other o/s where sro has no problems to run on

i think that is the easiest way.

here's the video... quality sucks, but you cant ell what's happening, just put it on full screen if you can. that blackout during the game actually happened, it's not a video error,

im 90% sure its your ram. when your on the character select screen press ctrl alt del and look at the sro_client process.

if the amount of memory its using is increasing very slowly or not at all. you need new memory.

i'd try that, but two things. first, i have vista now, and pressing ctrl-alt-del doesn't open up that computer usage chart and stuff, so i don't know how to open that... and i doubt it's the RAM, saying that my cpu is only a half month old and has 1GB of RAM... thanks though. but if you know how to check the cpu usage thing for vista, i'll ttry that.

I'm running windows vista ultimate (lite, special version not from microsoft) and I run everything just fine and smooth.. Even sro. Didn't have to do anything for it. Perhaps you should download it (It's legal as long as you have your own copy of windows vista ultimate.

oh, and i didn't notice this before, but whenever the background becomes static at the character selection screen, the music still plays and this message pops up in my taskbar tray

"display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

i tried to look for solutions on it, but i couldn't find any. and i have all the driver updates too.

why not?

If it's because of the cost of XP- I can understand that. You could try using Ubuntu Linux to run it in WINE, which works fairly well given that there's no support from the programmers of SRO. Only problem is that it wants to be full screen all the time- and that's not perfect, but it's a lot better than anything else. We have a thread on this.

If it's because he doesn't trust you with the computer, you're SOL. Best advice, try appealing to mom.
