What do the %'s mean after a stat? like Phy. att 20 (+20%) ?

by how much that stat is better then the NPC one.

to compare the actual value with the base stat of an item ie a shield lvl 20 def 40(50%) = shield lvl 20+1 def 40(0%) and the base stat is 38(0%) for example
