You dont use the cumulated buff before you hit 40 does anything happen or can i still give it too my leader.

As long as you don't click the graduate button I think you can still pass the buff to your guardian. But if you graduate right after you pass your buff (as in, have unused buff still showing) it'll disappear anyway.
