Me and my friend were talking about it and he said that the person who did the most damage in one hit gets the items and also the name for killing a unique. I thought it was all for the person who did the most damage in total and that the name was for the person who dealt the final blow on a unique. Does anyone know what it is?

As far as a normal kill and items, who ever does the most damage in total gets the drops.
For quests that say "kill x amount of marclaws", who ever deals the last piece of damage gets the kill recorded in their quest log, but unless they do a higher total of damage they don't get the drops.

Yarkan depends on damage done. This includes the notice and the drops.
Exp dist. for monsters depends on damage done.
Item dist. for monsters depends on damage done.
Quest count for monsters depends on last hitt.
Quest item dist. for monsters depends on last hit.
The effects are interchangable. You can receive the items for a kill, while someone else receives the quest item/count.
Also, if you do the last hit, and do overkill damage greater than or equal to the damage done by someone else to the monster, you receive not only the quest credits/items that may drop, but also possession of the items that drop.

I get it now, ty for the explanations
one thing though, it's happened that I get a quest item from a monster that I hit one time while somebody else deals the final blow and did more damage in total, why is that?

i am not sure about this, i am fairly certain i have gotten curse hearts or pureification seeds when others get quest drops from ksing the same mob

Because quest drops and cursed hearts can drop simultaneously. You can receive a cursed heart from any monster you do damage to. I.E. Yarkan.
However, only 1 cursed heart is available per monster. Similarly, only 1 alternate quest item is available per monster, afaik.

I think it's whoever deals withing the last 10% of the dmg, since I've gotten the kill without killing the monster and stopped attacking it, so it walked away.

When I still had quests, all you had to do is hit the monster once, it didnt have to be the last hit. What I did was find a nice bot populated area and start using AOE attacks just to hit them... then let the bot kill them. I was done in no time.
Im not sure if they changed it or not since then. It wasnt more than a month or 2 ago that I did this.

No that doesn't work anymore, or my wiz would have finished many quests much faster. Not saying that it can't clear an entire field of Niya X's at once, but sometimes nukes hit low, and botters grab the kill =x Damn those nukers and their shouts.
