Well, I play Silkroad on my laptop and I get internet connection from my parents router in their room, which happens to be across the house from my room. The router usually says it's on low or very low. I usually play on at 24 mbps. It runs without lags or anything. But there are some points of the day where it goes as low as 11 mbps and it lags so much that I cannot play at all.

Anyone know how ot make my computer run better? Does the mbps even matter? Any help is appreciated.

not the computer, wireless always tends to be skippy, or as you said, go to 11 Mbp, this is normal for wireless connections.

Is there anyway I can make it run better? Or prevent it from lagging?

Will those be the only two options?

Pretty much. You can try shuting down any excess programs like msn, xfire or internet browsers though I doubt that it will help.

Ok some facts about Wirelss vs Cable - FYI...

1. For your internet access wireless works fine - for data transfer across a LAN generally NO.
2. A cabled lan can operate at much higher speeds, generally 100/1000 - although there are some slower cards. The faster wireless cards operate at up to 54.
3. Wireless is also subject to slightly more latency - On a bad link, you're looking < 20ms.

More Info -
Performance
Wired LANs offer superior performance. Traditional Ethernet connections offer only 10 Mbps bandwidth, but 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet technology costs little more and is readily available. Although 100 Mbps represents a theoretical maximum performance never really achieved in practice, Fast Ethernet should be sufficient for home file sharing, gaming, and high-speed Internet access for many years into the future.
Wired LANs utilizing hubs can suffer performance slowdown if computers heavily utilize the network simultaneously. Use Ethernet switches instead of hubs to avoid this problem; a switch costs little more than a hub.

Ok some more insights, this one is for a company where they are wondering to go wired or wire less :D
Source - here

TBH, based on my personale experience, Using wired coonection SRO laggs 20% less than Wireless

Hope this helps :)

Quick Easy Fix Turn off your computer, beat it with a hammer. If it turns back on when prompted, turn it back off and do again until it doesn't come on again. Once that is taken care of, go get a book and learn about computers.
