After some weeks of trying to find a good balance between profit and the time you have to have your stall open, I've come up with a very basic formula that works rather well at least on Athens.

NPC = NPC selling price = the price you get when you sell the item to an NPC.

Base price: 2 x NPC

Additions

INT or STR +1 = 0 x NPC
INT or STR +2 = 1 x NPC
INT or STR +3 = 2 x NPC

INT / STR +1/+1 = 1 x NPC
INT / STR +1/+2 or +2/+1 = 2 x NPC
INT / STR +2/+2 or = 3 x NPC
INT / STR +2/+3 or +3/+2 = 4 x NPC
INT / STR +3/+3 = 5 x NPC

+1 = 1 x NPC
+2 = 2 x NPC
+3 = 3 x NPC
+4 = 4 x NPC

etc.

Critical < 5 = 0 x NPC
Critical 6-7 = 1 x NPC
Critical 8-9 = 2 x NPC
Critical 10-11 = 2.5 x NPC

Blocking ratio < 14 = 0 x NPC
Blocking ratio 14-15 = 1 x NPC
Blocking ratio 16 = 2 x NPC
Blocking ratio 17 = 2.5 x NPC
Blocking ratio 18 = 3 x NPC

Example

You have a blade with an NPC selling price of 10k. The blade is +1 and STR +2, with a Critical of 8. I would sell this for:

20k (base price) + 10k (+1) + 10k (STR +2) 20k (Critical 8 ) = 60k

This is of course not a perfect formula, and it might not work for you, and I'm sure you could sell the items for more money, but like I said in the beginning, this is for me a good balance between the profit and the length of time I need to have my stall open to sell my items.

Anything without bonuses I sell to the NPCs; the same goes for everything that is just INT or STR +1. It's not worth the time to try and sell it in a stall unless you have a dedicated shop character.

Again, I'm not saying this is the only way to price items, but feel free to try it out if you want. Any and all feedback is appreciated and most welcome. :)

heh, i just wished everyone priced things this way. instead, most seem to put it up an extra 4x for each point over 10 in crit or 14 in block. it's ridiculous.

sell whatever works... if ppl are willing to pay.

but i usually sell at a REALLY LOW PRICE, such as, lv 26 bow for 40k

cause i get too many items... not enough time to sell.. sometimes i sell to npc, or just drop it on the ground like it's hot :D

Items are worth what someone is willing to pay for them. I think your progression is too linear, take for example pricing items with (+#) on them. (+1) is easy to make and can be found without much difficulty on drops; it would take me days to sell one at 3x the NPC purchase price, if it sold at all. (+3), on the other hand, jumps way up because suddenly you have a neat glow and it's MUCH harder to make than (+2). Every additional level after that you'll see a bigger increase in value. And (+#) on weapons is far more expensive than on armor because of the price of weapon elixirs. There's also a big difference in value between weapons and armor, simply because weapons are one-size-fits-all while 5 out of 6 armor pieces are the wrong type and/or gender; not to mention that offense is always valued over defense in MMOs.

But all that said, if someone has no clue what they're doing, it's a good point to start from. You'll just have to learn the hard way what things are really worth to other people, and whether they're worth that much or that little to you.

If only this worked for Xian... where people add 1 Mil for a high crit, andanother 500k for a glowy weapon. -___-

Bakemaster, you have a good point, and I will modify my formula accordingly.

Some things are really hard to sell though. I have some +5 Half Linen Shoes, and I can't even sell them for 25k.

LOTS to add to this one: (three cheers for topics i like!!)

one thing that no one has factored into their equations is the condition of the market. example: Xian's Dong market is FLOODED with glaives, blades, shields, and spears between lvl32 and lvl38 which are decent-to-high crit and +3. these items are found as drops with a surprising frequency, and as such they're hard to move for the usual high prices people have come to expect from items of this nature.

however, decent lvl42-48 blades are much harder to come by, and as such command higher prices in my experience. a lvl38+3 blade with a crit of 8 or better could sell for 2mil in Xian, whereas the next lvl blade up, a 42+3, could sell for 4mil, or double the price. this is not a linear scale at all, since the base price of the lvl42 plade is only about 50-80k more than the lvl38, if my memory serves me (corrections welcome).

@banzai: in my experience, high crit bows are much more rare than the other weapons. you lucked out of you bought those at decent prices. a crit 8 bow is a great find, and a crit 10 bow (highest i've personally seen on a bow) is almost priceless at higher lvls. these are the kinds of weapons whch aren't sold, but are passed down through guilds because of their rarity.

@marcato: the reason your +5 shoes probably aren't selling fast may be because most people who are of a lvl to wear them simply don't know how good they are. newness to the game and unfimiarity with the attributes of gear plays a factor.

@bake: i was actually conversing w/ a prospective buyer on this concept yesterday. i was trying to sell a lvl48+3 blade for a guildmate, and the bargaining got down to things as specific as phys. and mag. balance on the weapon, etc. one of the points i tried to use in support of the price i was offering it for was the fact that my guild mate had used 5 elixirs to get it to +3. however, after doing some quick math, my prospective client came up with a number which was about 1/2 what i was asking. well, that's embarrassing. but then i metioned that the value scale has to increase exponentially with the risk to the enchantment of the weapon, hence the escalated value. while i know of several people who have successfully +4'ed and +5'ed their weapons, i find that MOST (not all) of these items are found as drops. lucky break for the player, nothing more. but the conditions of the market are what sets the price in that case.

it's nearly 4am and i've had a lot to drink, so i hope at least SOME of what i just typed makes sense.

So far, I am using / going to use lvl18 cri8 +3 bow and lvl26 cri7 +4 bow

The lvl 18 one bought one week ago for only 20k
That lvl26 one bought last weekend for 600k :P

Very happy to have both of them

How much do you add for the item being SOS?

By looking market prices I'd say for armors it's roughly like this:

Seal of Star = 10 x NPC
Seal of Moon = 15 x NPC (guessing, only seen couple items for sale)
Seal of Sun = 20 x NPC (pure guess, haven't seen any for sale)

and for weapons the multiplier is usually something like 50x - 100x NPC price (or even higher).

Again supply and demand make here big difference to the prices and all those level 16 items are very expensive compared to most other SoS items because that's the main SP farming level.

I sold a SOM Copper sword for 60k, it was sold within twenty seconds. I think I could've gotten a better deal, but oh well, what's done is done.

Like any good MMO the dev team is watching the game economy and tweaks the drop rates to keep a balance.

SOX items are low-drop beacuse of how much they're worth
>+5 items are a rarity because they are so pricey
Degree 8 Blues are nearly impossible to find because.. well.. its degree 8...

Take for example, the dynamic market ideology used in Guild Wars. The merchant system works in a manner where all the servers share market data. Say player X buys a Ectoplasm Glob (very expensive item, used in making the most uber looking armor in the game). He buys 25 of such globs at 6k. Moments later, he sold one of his valuable items and comes back to buy more. Unfortunately for him, the server price list just refreshed. It turns out he bought his ecto's just before 5 others did the same... and the yall bought alot more than he did. The server, realizing that ecotplasm is in higher demand, has performed some sort of mysterious calculation on the price of the ecotplasm and increased it. The cost is now 6.7k.

This is why I was so interested in Guild Wars for a long time. They not only had one of the most active developement teams i have ever seen, one of the best concepts of PvE ive ever taken, and one of the Richest PvP experiences ever. The dynamic economy made you really feel a loss when you, for example, bought silver dyes for 700+ gold, only to notice that the next day they were down as low as 500-600 gold.

was it really necessary to spam in all-caps and force m to spam at you in all-lower case and cause the next person to shout at me for off topicness and then the admin come and close the topic?

ok getting ahead of myself, the formula isnt complicated at all, you just skipped all the talking and looked at the final result, kinmda like sleeping in math class and waking up to the homework, only to ask the teacher "wtf is this? how the hell do i...."

YAY For bringing back a dead post! Now that I have read this guide I do not really agree with it. I think the prices are way to high, for Troy at least.

welp, i went and did it.

created a program based off of this post.

i would really love some feedback on it.

read the txt file for information on it.

http://members.cox.net/saturnian/silkroadonline%20calculator.zip

i also would be interested in getting the information from the sp calculator that got deleted. if anyone has information on it i could add it to my calculator possibly or make a new program by itself.
