Post subject: XP/SP Ratios Preliminary Conclusions... Posted: Fri Mar 24, 2006 1:20 pm |
|
Hi, I'm New Here |

Thanks for the few who helped to contribute to the data. With what I’ve been able to compile, I’ve created an XP/SP ratio table located at http://srodatabank.incarnum.com/index.p ... o_SP_Ratio As you can see, it’s far from being anywhere close to complete, but even with this limited data, I’ve been able to form a few hypotheses.
1. I was apparently able to interpolate the results for skill mastery level 6 for levels 23 to 28. The values incremented by about 6% and gave fairly close values for the end points. These will need to be verified with actual data however.
2. This interpolation breaks down at the lower levels. This leads me to believe that either the incrementals are different at the lower levels and then shift, or that there are blocks in which a constant percentage increase would be appropriate to use. Again, more data is needed in order to interpolate any additional values.
3. Based solely on Character level 5 data, it appeared that the multiplicative factor across the chart is 0.75. Unfortunately, there are no other character levels for which I have three data points to see if this constant multiplier persists across all character levels.
I’ve also formed a hypothesis on how rounding seems to work.
For each additional party member, you get 3% extra experience. But, the effect does not appear to be multiplicative. That is, if you had 4 party members, you would receive 1.09 extra experience, not 1.092727. After you multiply both your XP and SP by this number, you round down.
The XP/SP ratios that I’ve calculated and observed seem to follow an opposite rounding pattern. When you divide the XP by the XP/SP ratio, you will then have to round up to get the correct SP ratio. In the actual data however, I was finding that I was getting errors of +/- 1. I think this is due to the fact that most of the data that I’ve collected was from a 4 party group so the rounding errors compound upon each other. I haven’t determined which rounding comes first or if all calculations are done together then rounded.
Champions and Giants do seem to give exactly 2x and 15x experience for a full kill. This may vary by a few points from party rounding.
Again, any more data that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Format the data into Mob Name / CharLvl/ Highest Skill Level / # in party / Char XP / Skill XP. If you look around the wiki, I’ve started to put in some tables of observed experience gain based on mob/party size/char level/skill mastery lvl. Please feel free to help out and add in what you know. If anyone is willing to help out on a greater magnitude, please give me a pm. Thanks and I hope to update with more information soon!

I've read all of it and it is impressive that you did what you did. I'm not good with numbers and formulae. So, after reading that, my head hurts >_<

In my previous post, I forgot to note how many people were in my party. I think it was full, since I tend to keep my party full, but I can't be sure. Sorry 'bout that. All this is full party.

I think you placed one value to wrong slot. I posted earlier exp info from char level 31 and masteries at 30. You placed that number then on your chart to slot "char level 30, mastery difference 1 ie. mastery 29". You need to drop it down one row.

I have some generalizations I can make about the lower levels and mid levels that I can share for now. It appears that levels 1-about 5 act very differently than the rest of the levels. (~6-30). I see consistent patterns within levels 6-30 which allowed me to interpolate values for the XP/SP ratios that you saw on the wiki. As for a concrete formula, I'm not sure if I will be able to derive one, but I will be able to describe the relationships between everything.
I need a few more data points on the higher levels (30+) preferably some around 40 and some around 50 as that will allow me to extrapolate what I have and see whether or not the pattern appears to hold true for the high levels as well. If they do, then I will be able to post a full xp/sp chart.
In order to determine formulas, I believe calculating purely the XP/SP ratios are a mistake. Someone (I forget who) mentioned that if you are alone, your Skill Mastery = Character Level = Mob level, then the amount of SP you get will be the same each and every level. In this case, I think it was 109. So, perhaps the correct way to do this is to determine that matrix and then determine a way to calculate each mob's base XP. Of course, that requires an insanely large amount of work, so XP/SP ratios will have to suffice even though they are approximations (and fairly good ones at that).
I will be writing a more detailed article when I have the time to do so. Be on the lookout for it!

Lvl 20
Mastery 11
Full party
Bandit:
35 xp
148 sp
Edit: So, if you are farming, it doesn't matter what mob you farm? If SP is a set number (109 at all lvls equal), than a Lvl 32 char with lvl 32 masteries would get the same SP from a lvl 32 mob than if all those numbers were 16.

Sorry if I wasn't completely clear in my post. You are correct, the SP you gain if all those values are 32 is the same as if all those values are 16.
I'll clarify a bit more here.
The SP that you gain from a mob seems to be dependant upon 2 variables (by extension 3). Your skill mastery gap and the difference between the mob level and your character level. For example... (these are completely made up numbers)
If you are Level 10, with Skill Mastery (SM) of 8, killing a mob level 10. you get 100 SP.
If you are Level 22, ,with SM of 20, killing a mob of lvl 22, you get 100 SP.
If you are level 22, with SM of 18, killin ga mob of 22, you get 110 sp.
You get the picture =). So, it does still matter what mob you farm, just perhaps not as great as an extent as you might think.
I guess since I'm on the topic I may as well explain another thing to those who may be confused or wondering what the point of all this xp/sp ratio stuff is for.
Why is it that we keep a large SP gap in order to farm (i.e. 9 levels)? The amount of SP that we get in addition is minimal (relative to the actual effect). I.e. Let's say at level 20 you get 100 SXP / kill at 0 skill mastery gap (SMG) and 150 SXP / kill at 9 SMG. At first look, it looks as if the net gain is 50%. But there's a 2nd element at play. The XP/SP ratio decreases dramatically as your SMG increases. Assume it takes 100,000 xp to level up. Continuing our example... Let's assume that it's 500/100 / kill at 0 SMG and 50/150 at 9 SMG. Here's where the real effect of SP farming comes into play. It takes you 200 kills to get a level at 0 SMG and 2000 kills to get a level at 9 SMG. In that time you will gain 20,000 SXP or 50 SP with a 0 SMG. If you had 9 SMG, you would gain 300,000 SXP or 750 SP. That is what SP farming does.
The point of the gap in effect is to actually reduce the number of XP that you gain, not to increase the amount of SP (though that is a nice but small benefit). Note that each time you die, you lose 2% of your experience but none of your SP. So, think of each death as a small increment in your SP gap and it won't make you feel as bad!
That was a much longer answer than I intended, and as I mentioned before, I will be writing a much more detailed article when I have the time that documents and explains what I've detailed above and how it relates to the values I've gotten.
Thanks again for all your contributions and keep them coming!

Hi there shummie, all,
I have been noteing down my xp/sp values when i started sp-farming.
I'm now @L18 -6 and have put it all in an excell-sheet.
I will try to get it out and post it here, tomorrow.
About the first couple of levels, they are indeed different.
The party-members do change the amount you get, but not the ratio.
Also the mobs you choose, do not make a difference in the ratio, only the amount.
I can confirm the Champion == 2x and Giant == 15x, ratio doesn't change, as said above.
(Only more accurate numbers when it is a giant.)
So you can use any mob you like, to sp-farm.
The heavier mobs, you need less of them, but i think go look for a mob that you can get the most sp per time. Like for me bandits in the stronghold. I can do white tigers easy, but then i have to walk here and there.
OK enough for now, the data will follow soon.
BTW: I am a hybrid sword/blade with fire and added lightning on Aege

Wow, thanks for the data Major7. That helped to verify that my extrapolations are fairly close (+/- 10%) (if you call that close). I've updated the tables and will post again when I update with more info. =)
