america need to seriously get there act together (no offence to you american people)

why this never happens in Europe (or hardly ever at least) ? cos guns are banned unless you have a licence

in america, its a kill frenzy, no licence, just need a gun and ammunition

if bush actualy opened his eyes to the world, he would realise he needs to help with global warming, and to do something about ..... gun crime, bush deserves to burn in hell.
im terribly sorry , and have dire sympathy for the families involved, but if you ask me, they had it coming

there should be more security in schools, or a least ban unlicenced guns

yeah im listening to this at work. its horrible that this is happening. as for the user that was bashing the us and their gun laws, these kind of statements will just start a arguement. im getting tired of seeing topics that are nothing about what the title says. god bless the families that are involved of those students and facility.

You have to stop blaming this shit on the fact that us Americans can own firearms. If that was true than every person with a gun would just go on killing sprees. It's the psycho behind the trigger who is responsible, not the gun.

No, he probably would've just stabbed them all, or gotten hold of a gun anyway. Crimes will still happen, guns or not.

In fact, if everyone had guns crime would drastically go down.

People commit crimes because they don't think anything will happen. (very vague statement, don't start going nazi on this)

What are the chances of someone goign around robbing people and doing all sorts of other crimes if everyone has at least a handgun on them- Very low.

I strongly have to dissagree with that statement.

It is the opportunity that makes the situation real. What people do when they loose their control, can be far beyond what they ever thought they were capable of. It might lead to the decrease of some crimes, but other crimes would in return escalate. I rather read about robbery then manslaughter in the news.

If everyone had a gun, there would be no opportunity. Only a death wish.
No sane person would attempt to rob someone knowing there's a big chance that either the victim or a bystander had a handgun in their holster.

Back on topic:

The story is kind of scary.
I walk around campus everyday feeling safe. And to see a story of a person killing 30 people in their DORMS and CLASSROOMS hits very close to home. And the gunman was free for a full 2 hours!

That's scary.

I don't know anyone at Va. Tech, but I can imagine how scary this must be for the entire campus.

My thoughts exactly.

If someone walked into a bank or a school campus or some odd place with plans to shoot a ton of people, i'm not sure how far he would get if every person had some sort of firearm on them.

It would be 1 man with a gun versus the rest of america with guns.

Ya, even without guns you can still kill poeple. What about knives? tools? golf clubs? and the list of potentially dangerous items goes on and on and on.

My father went to Virginia Tech and yesterday was the anniversary of his death. Not at all related to this particular incident but it doesn't really help.

To everyone who thinks more guns = more safety, that's the same thinking behind the Cold War. So I guess if you like the Cold War, that's cool.

It's not the fact that more guns = more safe.
It's the fact that criminals can and will somehow get guns, while law abiding citizens will not. It will be worse than it is now. Sure accidental shooting of family members or little kids/parents being stuipd and having their guns lying around all that will go down, but when you have only the criminals with any power- what will stop them?

That's exactly you shouldn't sell weapons to anyone, so easily.

If guns are banned then Psycho wont make rampage in schools...

No, he probably would've just stabbed them all

Hard to stab 31 persons as fast as with a gun, dont you think?

Eh i agree on this :(

EDIT

what's sad is that it is NOT the first time that this happens (Columbine, etc) and they can still do it....Why? I dont live in US so i dont know everything that happens there but they should change something

Make a Bomb
Poision everyone
Use a sword.

So many ways to kill people

Ands it not "easy" to get a gun. You can just call up a store. They have to do a background check + other things.

Pretty sure we already had a time period in which everyone had guns... was called "The Wild West". <_<

A few problems. Number one, you don't become a criminal until after you shoot someone. Fewer guns, fewer criminals. And even among criminals, there are petty thieves and scam artists who have guns legally; make it harder to have a gun, and nobody's saying you can disarm organized crime, but you can keep them out of the hands of some.

Bomb? Sword? Poison? Those are all much harder ways to kill someone than simply owning a gun. Having a gun available makes crimes of passion more deadly; with a gun, someone who would get angry and break someone's arm or leg, instead gets angry and kills them.

As a police officer, would you rather go into a dangerous situation, say a drug bust, where you know that there are only a couple people with guns? Or would you rather walk in knowing that also all the runners have guns, the doorman has a gun, the cooks in the kitchen have guns, and they're not all criminals but who says they know what they're doing? If someone takes a hotel lobby hostage, do you want to worry about some idiot bellhop shooting at the gunman and getting everyone killed?

The second amendment only guarantees that you be able to get a gun. It doesn't guarantee the process should be simple or easy or as relatively unregulated as it is in this country. The first amendment also guarantees the right to free movement, but you have to go through more rigorous screening to get on a plane than the buy a gun.

He killed people, mutliple, and 2 HOURS LATER, he killed another 20.
