Telling your problem:

Use coma, dots and readable sentences. Also try provide your situation in decent English readable language.

When describing your problem don't just say "There's an error message, then the computer restarts". Describe what the error message says before the computer restarts, give as much details as possible.

COMMON PROBLEMS:

When I play the game (any 3d game), the computer restarts:

Additionally you might see a blue screen with various white numbers if you have made that setting in windows to; not restart the computer during a problem. The above mentioned problem usually caused because:

* Hardware failure

Combining different kinds of hardware doesn't always work, buying a new fresh graphic card and using an old power supply will cause the computer to restart, because it cant supply enough power for the graphic card. New graphic cards requires strong power supplies. If you a rather old computer and decides to upgrade it by buying a new graphic card, this might occur.

Bad ram is another reason, if you have several ram sticks witch doesn't match each other this might happen.

* Driver failure

There's drivers for your graphic card, but there's also drivers or your chip set. If you buy a new graphic card, it might not work correctly with the current installed drivers for your chipset. A common thing which is often seen is people who have an old VIA chipset with a new Nvidia Geforce graphic card, this will often cause a memory leak if the wrong chipset driver is installed.

If you have this issue, try and describe as much as you know about your computer. These errors can be quite troublesome to troubleshot. There's an excellent program called Everest which list which hardware parts your computer contain and who made them.

Everest can be downloaded here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

When I play the game (any 3d game), the computer freezes:

This might be caused because of a memory leak, additionally the mouse cursor might freeze and the computer might start begin to make various kinds of beep sounds.

This might be caused because bad RAM or faulty drivers related to your graphic card and chipset.

When I try to start Silkroad Online I always see an error message telling me the server is having an inspection/update:

This can be caused either because joymax server stability, or your connection trying to reach joymax. Several users get this messages sometimes - but rarely, when the servers are very overloaded (in which case not even the web page is accessible).

If you always see this message, anytime during the day, and you have tried to start Silkroad Online several times it might be caused because:

* Your connection is blocking joymax
Which might be happening because:

- You have blocked Silkroad Client in your firewall
- You have blocked joymax web page in your firewall
- You might be using a router and not allowing the port for joymax
- Your ISP might not be able to handle connections to Korea

In this case, the following can be tested, and might solve the problem for some users:

1. Go to C/Windows/system32/drivers/etc
2. Open hosts with notepad
3. Add 222.111.150.111 gwgt1.joymax.com under 127.0.0.1 localhost
4. Save and open Silkroad.

If you can't find any solution to this, you might want to call your ISP or visit their web page for additional information.

When I try to start Silkroad Online, the START button doesn't appear in the patcher:

This problem is related to the former one, look above.

After login I get a GameGuard error:

This might be unsolvable, there isn't a real solution to this. But you can try and download the GameGuard patch manually, also check former problems related to connection, maybe you are blocking the connection for GameGuard?:

You can do that here:
http://update.nprotect.net.proxy.cjb.ne ... eGuard.exe

You can also delete the GameGuard folder and once again run the patcher and press START, the GameGuard should start to download.

I found this thread in the official forum, it might be worth to test:
http://www.silkroadonline.net/sro_board ... =gameguard

Also be aware of that GameGuard wont allow you to enter the game if you run a 3rd party program (macro), obviously.

During the game I get an error message with computer related information and a lot of question marks:

This might be unsolvable, it might occur because there's an error with the Silkroad Online client or some driver installed in your computer which doesn't work properly with Silkroad. This information about your computer is sent to Joymax after you press the left button.

You can try this if you use Windows XP:
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1081

The Nvidia & VIA chipset freeze/restart:

Having a few years old computer with a Nvidia card (which is rather new) with a rather old VIA chipset can cause a memory leak and cause either the computer to freeze or restart when playing a graphic intense game. To solve this, download VIA test driver.

You can do that here:
http://goto.glocalnet.net/47frwk/testdriver.zip

Information directly from the readme.txt:

"What does it do? It closes the RX55 memory register in BIOS. The RX55 register's official name and function is Memory Write Queue (MWQ) timer. The MWQ timer is actually a timing device included in the memory host controller to prevent write data being held in the memory queue too long. After the data has been in the queue too long it times out. This timed out data is then given a higher write request priority. Now that might sound nice – a bit of extra performance BUT the procedure fails when overloaded. 3D games and Win XP put too much load on the memory queuing timer procedure. The nVidia new driver exaggerates the problem even more as the driver enables nVidia cards to use even more memory than previous driver versions."

Registration problem (posted 3 may/06)

When registration fails it's much probably a fault at joymax's side and not at yours. You can try and register again, or wait and see if the problem is fixed. Or if possible ask someone who is able to register, to make an account for you.

OTHER QUESTIONS:

Is it possible to transfer a character to another server:

Currently it's impossible.

My account got hacked, what to do?:

best thing to do in a situation like this is to send an e-mail to costumer service, you can do that here:

http://www.silkroadonline.net/cc/bugreport.asp

My character got scammed, now I've no money:

Silkroad Online staff doesn't help in situations like the one above, because it's the players own fault. Be aware what is traded during the exchange.

How do I change my Silkroad account password?:

Before login in at the official webpage, press the button "Forgot your ID or PW? Please click here!" located in the north-west corner.

It only works if your e-mail is 25 characters long or less (Park quote from official forum).

How can I play Silkroad in window mode?

This progress doesn't include any kind of file modifying, therefore it should be completely legal.

To play in window mode hold down the Windows(flag) key+Alt and press Enter. To restore back to full screen repeat the process.

VARIUS INFORMATION:

The Confirmation window/disconnect window is annoying during login because it closes the client:

If you know who Park is in the official forum, you would maybe have seen him write several times that this message closes the client so scripted functions which would try and autologin over and over would be stopped.

The download of the Silkroad client is very slow:

You can download Silkroad Online quickly at Fileplanet.

You can do that here:
http://www.fileplanet.com/158696/150000 ... ine-Client

You need to be a member (free) and you might have to wait in a queue up to 40 minutes before the download will start.

How can I do a tracert?:

Press Start -> Run, type cmd.
then type: tracert 222.111.150.120

222.111.150.120 is said to be Troy server.

Updating your nForce:

Several users have been able to solve their problem by updating their nForce driver. You can do this at nvidias homepage, in the same section where you update your graphic card driver.

I'm hungry, you know where to find a receipt for blueberry pie?:

Yes, here:
http://www.allairevillage.org/recipes/BLUEBERRYPIE.htm

The ??? error is a client crash, this ??? error will show up during any kind of client crash. ??? error isn't related to one kind of problem, for some it might be their graphic drivers who causes the crash, for some it's a fault in the Silkroad Client and for others it might be a completely other cause.

Is there a way to play at a custom resolution. I really would like to play at 1440x900 (a common widescreen res), but have found no way to do so. :banghead:

Asking your question fifty times will not cause someone to magically discover the answer. Nobody here knows, or they would have posted.

I couldn't find anyway to increase the resolution trough the registry, so I guess it's impossible.

Someone directed me here after my main forum post, but it doesn't say anything about specific ports.

Anyone know what firewall ports i'll need to unblock to play SRO? As in the exact ports, if I'm playing through several firewalls/servers. Thanks in advance.

Tolenzki, this is completely the wrong place for that question. But here is what you do: find the Guild NPC in one of the cities and talk to him to leave your guild. After three days you can join another guild.

The guild NPC in Jangan is located in the military camp.
The guild NPC in Donwhang is located on the South wall near the storage.
The guild NPC in Hotan is located in the royal palace to the north of the city.

Good guide! I have just one thing to add for random restarts playing 3d games.

If the system restarts while playing a 3D game and u have a decent power supply, then that leaves 2 possibilities : Hardware Failure & Driver Failure. To fix hardware failure, well duh, you're going to have to buy a new graphics card. However, with driver failures, just installing the new driver over the old driver isn't always going to work properly.

What happens is this, Windows has its own built in driver as well as any other drivers that you may have installed. Having more than one set of drivers can confuse Windows (yes I know, Windows gets confused easily...). To fix that there is this great little program floating around on the net called Driver Cleaner Pro (just search for that on Google). It is free, and it will remove any video or chipset drivers (ATI & nVidia) that are currently installed. This will start you with a clean slate before installing your new video driver. I've used this program in numerous occasions and it has solved my gaming restarts every single time. I would recommend it to anyone. I will say, however, that Driver Cleaner tends to be a bit intuitive and may not be suitable for those without a decent computer background.

**WARNING: Follow the instructions in the "readme.txt" file EXACTLY. Failure to do so may result in your computer being more messed up than it was when u started.

When I try to start Silkroad Online I always see an error message telling me the server is having an inspection/update
That is exactly what's happening to me!!

- You have blocked Silkroad Client in your firewall
I don't have a firewall active.

- You have blocked joymax web page in your firewall
No firewall active.

- You might be using a router and not allowing the port for joymax
The game was working but now it isn't and I didn't change any router settings. Thus, it couldn't be my router.

- Your ISP might not be able to handle connections to Korea
I've tried the 3 other SRO websites (Korean, etc..) and they work fine. Just not the english site.
The game nor the website works on either of my computers (a 4 yr old XP home and a new XP pro).

Quote:
1. Go to C/Windows/system32/drivers/etc
2. Open hosts with notepad
3. Add 222.111.150.111 gwgt1.joymax.com under 127.0.0.1 localhost
4. Save and open Silkroad.
I've tried this but it didn't work.

If you can't find any solution to this, you might want to call your ISP or visit their web page for additional information.
What should I say to my ISP (Knology).

My friends can play but not me.

Please help me!!

P.S. See this topic for more information about my computer: http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=15151.

My problems after the 9/14 update...

1. Go to C/Windows/system32/drivers/etc
2. Open hosts with notepad
3. Add 222.111.150.111 gwgt1.joymax.com under 127.0.0.1 localhost
4. Save and open Silkroad.

this was the solution to my previous problem.. but after the 9/14 update..
it seems not to work with this.. so my friends told me to reset the host folder to default because they just did it and it worked for them but not for me.. can't it be that the ip of joymax changed??? help!!!!!!!!![/quote]

to check for problems with your RAM, use memtest86. That's what found out that my second RAM chip was screwy, and my computer's been running fine ever since. :)
