I heard something about this. Back in the days, men used to beat up their women. The abusing could cause death at times because the sticks were too big. There was a law that men cannot use a stick larger than their thumbs.

Also there's the left-thumb rule for electromagnetic field. But I don't think that's where it's from.

I think it was originally "you can't eat your cake and have it too," meaning no more than what it says. It actually makes sense like that, but for some reason 95% of people seem to get it wrong.

I've have never in my life heard ANYONE say "you can't eat your cake and have it too." While that does make sense thats not really the saying and it doesn't make me any less angry when someone says it...cause its seriously my effin cake...and im gonna eat the b*tch :twisted:
