Here's the big ass review I've been promising ^^ I'll update this several times for spelling errors, new info as I progress and any info that happens to be wrong. It seems easier to do this in segments so that's what I'll be doing. Ok lets get started!

GC movie (Turn captions off)
Spoiler!

Story
I read the main story briefly, but from that - After a disaster the world changes and living creatures began to mutate horribly. The Ioxenic have made some type of technology that lets you become a "Temperion". This is basically a person who gets cybernetic treatment as well as DNA tampering. You as the player are a Temperion. It's your job to go out and exterminate the mutations and collect old relics from before the disaster. But apparently the Ioxenic are using you for something more. Basically the theme is dark, gory and mad scientist like.

Full story here
Spoiler!

Game play and controls
The controls can be a bit difficult and tricky at first and if you're used to the traditional point and click you'll have to change your settings. Even with this the controls are a bit different. You may have a hard time even after fixing your settings but once you learn the controls it's a piece of cake and very easy for how the game runs.

Additional help (Especially for magic based classes)
If you are going to be a magic, crossbow or a launcher user you will have to be at a distance to attack an enemy. You'll also have to continue to kite from them as they advance towards you, for magic users this makes your attack stronger and also if you are too close you can't use some of the skills. The "s" key (This can be changed to any key you like) allows you to move backwards while facing the enemy. This is important to use because running around them will only get you killed, confused, accidentally alert another aggro monster or almost killed. Also an important thing to note - right clicking a monster targets them but you don't attack. If you accidentally left click to attack a monster and don't want to you can push the escape button to cancel. Kiting back this way also decreases the damage monsters inflict on you. Also as ranged attacker you can drag an individual aggro monster away from a group, unless it's a mother and babies are near.

A helpful screenshot of basic settings here

Races and classes
When creating a character you're laying down as though you were just finished your Temperion alterations. There are 4 races. You must be a certain race to be a certain class. You have 2 jobs per race, a warrior type and a magic using type. This is also separated into what type of that class you want to be. Example: "Hunter" - Choose to have the few knuckle attacks with traps and animal taming or use a launcher. I'll talk more about skills next.

Races here
Spoiler!

Skills and DNA skills
This game requires NO sp farming whatsoever. Each time you level up you acquire 1 skill point, this may not seem like much but all skills only need 1 point to increase (so I've noticed thus far). I think there are 2 levels where you gain 3 skill points when reaching that level. Because of this you have to choose your skills very carefully, this also allows you to build your character how you want. You can choose to have certain skills high lvl or have a bunch of low level ones. You can choose to use a certain weapon for a specific class as well. Meaning each class has 2-3 different weapons you can choose to use for that class. If you understand what I'm saying. A fighter is your typical fighter however if you use magic attacks you will often have to slowly move away from the enemy for projectiles and to avoid high dmg inflicted on your character.

DNA skills
Quote:
Requiem features a DNA system, in which the player can fill their 5 DNA slots with skill enhancements. These skills enhancement are typically costly and increases either a skill's power, or decrease cooldown durations.

Note that DNA skills don't cost any sp, only gold (Lant).

Beast possession
Beast possession is much like sro's zerk, except you have multiple monsters you can transform into. While you level they level and you may set the amount of exp they gain. No exp is deducted from yours. You may have up to 3 monsters in your monster possession slot. Each gain exp with you, skill points, have several skills you can perform while in transformation and can also wear their own equipment. A quest is required to obtain this skill. Beast possessions, once obtained must be dragged into the beast possession slot. This means you can purchase different beasts from other players. I also read you can combine beasts to make different ones, however I have yet to try this. Once your beast gauge is filled to 100% you may transform and the bar slowly goes down. Your beast skills (depending on level of beast and skill) do extremely massive damage to enemies. You also sever all or most of their limbs when you kill them. You must be level 25 to use beast possession.

Graphics, atmosphere and music
On average the graphics are about 7/10. Up close some things tend to look smudgy and lacking detail. This only applies to certain things. There is no bloom effect so you don't have the pretty glazed look, however the graphics aren't really pixelly and rugged. Overall the graphics are pretty good and you can see they put quite a bit of detail in character movement etc.

The atmosphere is usually dark and scary, foggy areas, lots of giant bones, deserts, forest, snow areas, mines and other dark related themes, even some ghettos. There are some nice cities which actually have nice graphics, blue skies and are huge but not a pain to walk around in. Alot of detail was put into there design. You've got a red light area in one too (No, you cannot have sex in this game).

For the first time really this is one mmo I went out of my way to get the music for. The music lasts only about 30-50 seconds when entering a new area then goes right to ambient sounds. This often sounds like music sometimes. None have ever gotten on my nerves and some of it is downright creepy. All which seem to match perfectly with the current setting. Some you'd think you'd hear in a Silent Hill game. The ambient sounds are definitely a plus and the general character sounds fit well also.

Blood and gore
Yes, this game has lots. With each hit to a monster, blood sprays and as they or you are nearing death, blood starts to cover you. When you kill a monster either their arm, leg, torso or head fly off and their remains lay wiggling on the ground. If you don't like this, there is an option to minimize the gore or simply turn it off. No blood or appendages lost. You simply see the monster wiggle around and die. This however does not change the monsters, some are a little gory themselves and look like something out of Silent Hill. This also does not apply to the surroundings, lots of piles of dead bodies, blood on the ground and hanging bodies from trees. Though they aren't all that too graphic.

Leveling and quests
This game has a cap of 71. Grinding doesn't seem to be the most productive way to level unless you're in a party, then it seems very progressive but questing your way is possible and worth while, at least to lvl 35. After 35 grinding is a must, aside from questing, but this isn't much of an issue in parties or even soloing elite mobs. There are no "kill 3000 of this monster" kinda quests either, they are simple and sometimes require you to travel somewhere (Not across the entire freakin map though) or to kill a small amount of monsters. Quests can be stacked and you can do 2 at once, say if you have to kill that certain monster for both. Quests are NOT a requirement however they are beneficial and the rewards are often worth it. Quests are also good if you like exploring, they take you to new areas of the map as you progress, giving you the chance to fully explore all the game has to offer. Some quests you will need other players to help you with such as nightmare monster quests. You must do quests to get your first job, beast possession and a mount. For quest help, turn to the Req wiki.

Nightmare monsters
Quote:
Certain monsters appear at night in certain areas during the "in-game" hours of 11:00pm to 2:00am, these 'Nightmare Monsters' are far stronger than the local mobs and yield increased exp along with higher chances of "rare" item drops. These monsters are usually fought in mobs.

Group Zones/Raids/Town Raids
Quote:
Certain areas in the game require a party of 4 or more. These dungeon areas are filled with strong mobs and are designed for groups of players to experience an intense series of battles with high rewards. Typically these areas consist of "raid" bosses; enemies that are far superior than any one character and require groups usually of 15 or more to fight. These raids are done for the most powerful items in the game- in which players do a "roll" to see who obtains the items. There are numerous raids in the game including local town raids- in which a random raid boss enters a town and-if you would like- may try to party and slay it.

There are some dungeons you must be in parties with and venture through obstacles such as jumping from ledges, moving platforms, avoiding spikes, fire and other traps. It's a nice change from the usual "go in with a group, kill hard monsters".

Guilds
I don't know much about guilds. What I do know is that to make one you must have 10 signatures from other players at least level 10 and up, this doesn't require them to join the guild, only to have it created as well as a 10k fee. 10k is also what guild emblems cost but the variety is endless and impressive. So you can basically help anyone out without joining their guild, unless you're already in one. You get end of the week rewards for winning guild wars such as additional drops/exp etc. That's all the info I have on this for now

PVP/PK
Quote:
Requiem features 8-vs-8 battlefields, where only the victorious are rewarded with special items used for obtaining the rare weapons and armors

There are a total of 3 servers, all 3 are easy to login and only one allows random PK. You will see which on server selection. PVP is pretty basic here, you request a duel, kinda like killing a monster, except you don't die, the duel ends and the winner is announced. Many people on the non PK servers are always willing to duel.

Enchanting
Quote:
With several different item enhancement systems, players can create new items or upgrade and customize existing ones. These upgraded items are created through the use of compounding and reinforcing by using various 'xeons'. There are numerous xeons throughout the game and the variety is nearly limitless. There are so many enhancements that can be applied to any item that it makes it worthwhile.

Economy
The economy is one of the most affordable I've ever seen. There is an auctioneer in every town and everyone's prices are fair. I've seen good weapons for level 60 that I could afford at level 25. However there are even better types of weapons, some had the word "supreme" so it's not just level # weapon and what not. I suppose you could say there are sos, som and sosun types of weapons. It's also easy to post your own auctions.

Server vs. server battle
Spoiler!

Additional tid-bits
-Character deletion is immediate.
-If you don't like your characters looks, simply delete and test the others.
-Some weapons and armor are "bound" to your character, thus you cannot trade them.
-Item mall items are available and premiums for more exp apply to quest exp as well.
-GM's hold events known as "Happy Hour" several times a week with additional gold, exp, drops.
-The security is good, each character is required a 4 digit passcode with an in game keypad.
-When characters are not in fighting mode they put their weapons away.
-The game is about 2GBs.
-Stat points are automatically distributed according to the class you pick.
-NO bots, no annoying globals, nice community.
-Pot delays, but the game is balanced even so.
-Good gear drops from monsters early on. I've never had to wear npc gear or weapons once yet.
-Holding "w" down also makes you run, you can change directions holding the left mouse button and turning your camera angle. It's easier and more convenient then clicking around.
-When you first login you should grind to lvl 5 then start the quests (The one around the teleporter, if you port on the wrong side, just run to the other). Push "m" - If you are at red, run over to blue ;d
-When you or an enemy dodges or blocks, they actually do that instead of you seeing "block/dodge"
-Traveling isn't just warping, you get to fly on a plane and admire the surroundings and see the areas. Note that you don't have control over the plane.

Well that's it for now, sorry this was such a long post but I wanted to give as much detail and information as I could, from the wiki and my own experience. This is a pretty fun game and I think it's worth a try. Give it at least 2 hours. It's a good game to play and just relax to instead of a rush to cap. So give it a try and drop a reply for anything else you may have questions about =) Hope you enjoyed and hope I helped ^_^\o/

Jackal and I play on server Lintra, starting area Turba island. Also be sure to read the tid-bits, some of them are important!

To whisper someone type without quotes - "/w name blahblah". To whisper again push "r" and the whisper text and their name will come up again so you don't have to retype it all. You can also open up the "community" bubble that's on the right side and click their name in your friend list. also the same place to add them to friends.

Since I got wrongfully banned recently from Cabal and IP banned for retaliating against their company...I'm probably going to move to this game.

(Will start downloading before going to bed. Thanks for the review! =D)

Questions:
1. Are there dungeons?
2. You mentioned night time? How long is a day in the game? What time zone does the "nightmare" monster system follow?
3. Air travel..how does that work? what level can we start?
4. I saw videos where people dodged monster attacks and player attacks manually, does the game have a physics engine?
5. Can you knock people down? Stun, bind?

Thanks =D

*sorry for having too many questions. just being very picky right now on what new game to play*

3: pretty early level you can air travel to other cities

Sounds like Cabal =x Sorry to hear >< No problem, ask away!

Yep different types of dungeons too.

It's military time in game, 0-24, 1min = 6 seconds, 144 mins = 1 ingame day, from 23 to 2 = midnight hour, which is 18 mins.

You can travel at any level, just go to the wingrider.

Not sure about manually dodging attacks, only that when you do, your character/monster actually moves out of the line of the attack. And it just happens randomly during battle.

As for stun/knock down etc I'm playing a dual sword user and don't have any skills like that, I skipped those so I'm not sure lol Sorry ><

Why don't YOU try it. sro is old and boring. Requiem is only 1 year old. And you're a noob.

I just added, there are no bots or annoying globals in this game ;D

The dodging thing I love, all it is is when you simply dodge something(when something misses you) your characters kinda actually dodges, so it looks like your really dodging, it's pretty cool lol.

All you gotta do is face the enemy to hit it, but it's easy with the mouse.

I have a couple of questions:

- How high are the benefits of getting premium items from the item mall?
- What's the rate of a (US) dollar to whatever currency they have in their item mall?

I'm not entirely sure as I haven't bought anything. If you mean like exp packages effecting quest exp it be pretty beneficial for some as a good amount of quests give around 30% which would double over as 60%.

Quote:
500 Points - 4.99 USD

1050 Points - 9.99 USD

1650 Points - 14.99 USD

2300 Points - 19.99 USD

5200 Points - 39.99 USD

Item mall items, such as avatars and mounts last 31 days. The avatars don't do much stat wise though. But seeing a full costume kitty/beat suit is rather amusing. There is even a space suit. I'm not positively sure about all of the items though. If you make an account you can see all the stuff they offer, you can only see it if you have one. They have game cards and packages. Alot of stuff now that I'm looking.

Just found out the cap is lvl 70 though lol

One example

Hope that helps a little at least.

I tried the game in 2008. I stopped playing because it was pretty dead, but it was a good game tho. It is fun to play and quest w/ a bunch of friends tho, unlike SRO.

Would it be possible that someone of you who has already downloaded it could upload it to gamershell.com or something? :)

Edit: I found a client on gamershell, it's from 2008-06-13, is it the actual one or do I have to download the patch?

It took me about 7 hours to download the game. Haven't started yet, trying to read on some reviews and holy shit I'm confused but I love being a noob at games. I highly doubt I'm coming back to Cabal even if they unban my character - I filed a Better Business Bureau report and so did at least 6 people I know so that should keep them busy.

Btw, Soul Hunter, Defiler, Rogue, Assassin, Ranger..all on Kruxena wha? :?

It looks fun :x But when I inserted my age into the offical page, it wont let me in, even when I try to exit it and go back onto it. any help? :(

You mean even when you put your age at 17+?
Disk clean-up? Delete all temp files and cookies? Restart computer?

*******
Btw, I figured out the whole sub-class thingy. Damn there's a lot...

4 RACE
2 SUB CLASS (1-50)
2 SUB-SUB CLASS (50+; 4 for each race)
+Different weapon types even for same class

Not bad =p

You must be 18+

I retired a few times and then it let me put in my age again, without deleting my cookies

Lol...I hope you didn't put your real age this time.

Btw, I'm still debating on Assassin or Dominator. Leaning towards Assassin but I might go Dominator based on how their summons look like. I tried looking around but so far I've only found crappy looking summons..I want gargantuan summons that spawned from the pits of hell

I started playing a week ago on Hammerine the pvp server. Its an alright game if you have a bunch of friends your level to putter around with, soloing is rather sad and boring.
