Ok, time for some good. Environmentally friendly good.
You don't need to do anything hard, just from 8PM-9PM your local time, shut off all your lights and as many appliances as you see fit.
The whole initiative is to reduce the electricity consumption on earth for one day as much as possible, to raise awareness about Global Warming and Climate change. Sure it may seem like a cumbersome idea, as today our lives revolve around Technology, but take time out to be part of something which has traversed all borders, Physical, Religious and Political.
So just join in, and spread the word to all.
This is where it all began: This was last year's. Don't listen to the times Code: Select all
I hope this saves at least a bit of energy. The biggest reason why the environment is becoming more and more polluted is because people have the attitude that "im only one person, I can't make a huge difference". WRONG, its everyone's effort that adds up to some good resources saved.
I don't think many will participate here. Must be easy to find me on Google Earth, one dark spot among too many lights.
Think this is an awesome idea, and so simple to do and make a difference. I really hope people won't just continue their normal routine after that hour, but see how we can make a difference with so little effort spent.
lol google is being stupid, by turning their screen black they waste energy because on LCDs it takes more energy to generate a black screen that it does a white screen. Only a small amount of computer users today still use CRTs (which is were a black screen would save the most energy) atm what google is doing is counterproductive to the earth-day movement. Google; still preying on the ignorance of the masses *shakes fist at google*
I'll see if my family can turn off its lights and appliances etc.

Well, if you're gonna waste a little bit more energy to send a message to all of the users using google, which in turn...atleast someone will decide to conserve more energy, isn't that going to be worth it?
lol i went on google last night, and like a second before, it was white then the 2nd time it was black, and im like.."WTF I DIDNT DO THIS!" so i refreshed the page and it was still black then i was like "this is gay."
hmmm if all of us turn off the lights at that particular time, then turning them back on could possibly cause a HUGE surge in the power grids if for some reason they would turn all the lights back on at once, lol $20 says thats gonna happen in EST tonight.
