I understand you 100% crimson. As a Nigerian I try to detach myself from the image the average black person in America has created.

This ad was supposed to be like a funny joke which you can laugh at or make you go headpalm from embarrassment.. not some heated argument on stereotypical aspects of African Americans. Everyone stop being so serious and start laughing or I'll make blackfox haunt you in your dreamz!

I face palmed irl when I saw the image.

AS DID I. I thought the ad wasn't for real when I first saw it, then I read the description and was just like...

No stereotypes are definitely created by ppl passing judgment. This can range from something simple like Asians are bad drivers to something ludicrous like black people have tails both of which were at some point common stereotypes. In the case of the former is it fair or right it it becomes a stereotype that asians are bad drivers because someone sees an Asian driving badly, regardless of the other equal if not worse drivers on the road. If the picture is funny because its a group of black ppl dressed and posed foolishly thats a bit bigoted. If the picture is funny because is a group of ppl dressed and posed foolishly attempting to sell a car thats not bigoted. See the difference. I would probably be able to look at the picture and laugh if i knew ppl were laughing with me instead of at me.

leads me to believe ppl are laughing at this picture for other reasons and just ppl acting dumb....which is fine i guess its not blatant bigotry just like those dumb ppl ended up on the internet there will be other dumb ppl looking at them end up on the internet....can't get too hyped over it though....i don't think it was meant to be taken offensively and if it were white or asian ppl dressed like that it would've ended up here anyway, some ppl just looked at the image differently....

No one said all black people are in gangs, though when you think of gangs, you generally think of Hispanic origin people, or African American people. THAT is generalizing. Saying that it's a 'crack' car is generalizing!

lol I'm not defending anyone, but saying that ALL black people are in gangs IS a generalized statement. They're not all in gangs, they're not all nice people either.

If in your area they're all in gangs, doing meth or crack. I'm sure not everyone does it, and those who don't would probably not like to be classified as having done it or doing it. Therefore it's a generalized statement.

when you generalize based on stereotypes or bigoted beliefs you become a bigoted and in extreme cases a racist. If you say all black are in gangs yes thats generalzing but the reason behind it plays an important part in that statement. Are you saying that because you don't know any better, are you saying that based on statistics, or are you saying that because you honestly believe black people are criminals by nature.

Crim stfu or show me the statistic because most African Americans are not in gangs and its not our fault that everytime you turn on the news, any TV show dealing with the law, or watch any movie you get blasted with that negative stereotype. If you wanted to look up the statistics you'd find that most crimes committed against white ppl are done by other white ppl. Coupled that with the fact that most gangs are intercity and even there at its very worst case scenario in the south only about 1/3 of the black ppl in the city were suspected to be involved in gang activity. Based on that you could easily confirm that white ppl if they lived their daily lives without media influence would have no reason to fear minorities because most of the crimes minorities commit are against one another. If you take away the 6oclock news and Cops you'd probably be left, based on statistics, with the feeling that most white ppl are criminal since they are the ones much more likely to commit a crime against you.


what's the point. if i make a serious point i'll be mocked by ppl like dom or crim. If i joke about it ppl like sharp continue making obviously bigoted remarks and getting lols from other ppl. Either way whatever i post will be looked at simply as Xemnas on another rant, nothing will change and 3 months later someone else will say something and we'll be back at square one...

No, other ethnicities create the stereotypes then the target ethnicity confirms it via the media and if you know anything about news you'll realize the majority of it is BS.

@Xemnas again, Have you been to the south? I swear seeing people confirm stereotypes on a daily basis just pisses me off. I never had to deal with such rampant stupidity in New York. All people, not just Black people.

People now-a-days don't want to socialize with others and are scared doing so, so the stereotype people to be safe thinking this is what the majority of that certain group are made up of.

I find some stereotypes to be hilarious but people who actually believe in these are dumb asses.

Im not saying they all are, im saying most of them are, thats just what I think. Not based on statistics, I would actually LOVE to see statistics too.

People who bring up the crap in order to despise some one, express dislike, poke at someone for looking different(XENOPHOBIA) or (in envy) for actually having an all around sun protection, or justify their actions (NAZIS...)
or the media like Barotix pointed out.

Either way it just broadens the gap between the different colors (or the races).

based on statistics, white people smoke marijuana equally or more than black people
based on statistics, white people commit at least as many crimes as other minorities.
based on statistics, the difference between the number of black, hispanic and white inmates is becoming smaller (but the asians inmates are still fairly few)

based on statistics, change is kicking in and stereotypes are becoming a belief for nostalgic people.




I have met many Black/Asian/Turkish people who fit into their stereotypical description, and sadly, not so many normal people.

e.g.:
The number of Black "thugz" over here is way higher than the number of "Earth Wind & Fire" black people.

In the North the majority of Black people can be considered, "Oreo". In the South the majority of Black follow their stereotypes like a religion. It depends almost entirely on what your exposed to, Crim what you're doing is generalizing. You're taking what you see in Canada and on the television/websites then generalizing. Realize, there are black people outside North America and realize what you see may very well be a lie.

EDIT: That link is the biggest piece of bigoted propaganda that has been posted in this topic and if you're getting your information from there, no wonder you think the way you do.

No, you look at what you're exposed to. You don't look at the majority, you generalize for the majority and yes; Generalization and Bigotry are evolutionary adaptations that (might I add) are outdated.
