I have downloaded SRO twice and installed it, it refuses to open and i dont have a clue why,

I click silkroad.exe and it opens and closes extremely fast (to fast to see the window) and i cant do anything at all.

Blah, anyone knoe of a solution to this?

I reinstalled DX 9.0c, and VIA drivers, GFX drivers are newer than the ones on SRO website, i could downgrade, might do that tomorrow,

Thanks

It might also be that some other application is closing it. Try running msconfig (click start->run->type "msconfig" without the quotes) and click on Startup uncheck the ones you don't need. For troubleshooting purposes you could uncheck all of them but you might disable your antivirus in the process of doing this so do so at your own risk, don't worry you could always come back and check all of them. Just click ok and it will ask you to restart your PC. Then try running SRO again. You also might to also try running an anti-spyware program (adaware, spybot, spysweeper...) on your PC since some spyware programs can do this as well.

os: Win XP Prof - SP2
cpu: Sempron 3100+
ram: 1Gb TwinMOS (2x 512)
gpu: nVidia Geforce 6600GT 256Mb

it closes when i open it, i dont even see a window at all, i open task manager and watch and i can see Silkroad starts up but it then closes in about half a second.

I will run a nod32 scan and maybe get a spyware scanner as well

hmmm
It now runs, shows me the window, then closes, im sure nothing else is closing it but i shall take a look

Edit: It now appears that it is a service / application, SRO works in safe mode (no GFX so can't actually play it though)

Edit2: Whittled it down again, its either DX or my GFX - Some driver that i cannot stop without uninstalling them :( so im off to uninstall my nVidia drivers and see if that is the problem

Edit3: ok i have no idea what it is lol, its not hardware, it works on Safe Mode but not when i start up normally, its not any service or any process / program and its not my DX or my nVidia drivers :(

Only affects Silkroad
does not affect in safe mode
is not:
nVidia
Service
Process
Hardware
Could be:
DX9.0c (all other games work fine, No problems in DxDiag, Fresh install)
Driver that only runs when not in safe mode (how to isolate, not in msconfig / services / Registry startup)

thats what i can come up with

not necessarrly spyware, if im not wrong it works like this, sro when start it goes wif a patcher and patcher load stuff in ur memory, and if like 000546210x0 is where the patcher put a packet in and its already been taken by other software or ur memory is screwed up it can automaticly close... if u have vista, try it in vista, or get a clean os and try see if that would fix the problem... cuz seem like sro trying to run over ur system files and got denined...

argh, thats a bit of a pain, i shall see if i can change the boot order or stop some things running at startup, if i could run WhenTrust first, that randomizes memory allocations so it should allow SRO a free memory location... hmm
