I'm looking for a new book to read; a book that is deep, thought-provoking, and most importantly, can keep a 15 year old entertained. All the reading material at school is a load of crap, besides Huckleberry Finn, which was only entertaining due to its racism. I've been looking for a book about an army veteran who tripped on a mine and got his limbs and most of his face blown off and continues to try to communicate by banging his head on walls with Morse code. I can't seem to find the book, since all the damn search results give me material on Nick Vujicic.... It'd be great if any of you have read the book I tried to summarize above, but overall, any recommendations on a good read would be nice. Thanks!

Summary: IIRC, A group of austrailian(sp) kids go camping and when they return their parents have been captured and theres like a war going on. I cant go on much further without runing the book. I kinda want to read them again so help!!!

Best book in the world: The Naked and The Dead - Norman Mailer.
700 pages. Took me one week to read the first 20 pages, and three days to read the rest.

Try Working Poor. Especially if you work a minimum wage job and haven't had the greatest of life. You'll love it. It's my all time favorite book.

Catcher in the Rye was a great book. Oh and the book about the soldier who uses to communicate LOL I heard about that book as well, can't remember it's title though. Suggestions: Cather in the Rye Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko As someone said, Michael Crichton is one of my favorite authors (R.I.P. ) Of his I'd suggest Eaters of the Dead, The Andromeda Strain, Next, and yes, Jurassic Park. The Master and Commander series by Patrick O'Brian, but then again I was a weird 15 year old who loved 17th century naval history, so yeah, might not be your cup of tea. Ummm, I can't think of any other books atm, I may edit or post later. Good luck!

Have you read Elie Wiesel's Night? It was a required reading when I was around 15 and I remember liking it a lot - in fact half my class, including me, finished it in one night and none of us were readers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_(book)

I checked our reading list awhile back, but it was just yada yada..you know, edgar allen poe, shakespeare, and something about transcendentalism and romanticism...i'll look that up. Hey TR! Well for entertaining books try some Joseph Wambaugh, Stephen King or Jack Higgins (yea, yea they are a bit old authors) and if you're a bit into fantasy, try the Inheritance Cycle books of Christopher Paolini.
But for thought-provoking, John Updike and the classics never let me down...=P

Try Watership down. It starts off a bit slow but gets better and better. I read it as well after ShizKnight recommended it to me a while ago. :)
