Do you think NPC thieves should be modified so's they can't kill much lower level players?

Sorry if my inaugural post has to be a complaint - but there it is.

I really love playing this game although there are a few ***** (as with any game) - but the one big thing that really and truly irks me about SRO, which frustrates me so's I just stop playing for a while, is NPC THIEVES!!!

Okay, so you know there's a danger of being attacked by one of these, but surely the game should give you half a chance of fighting back! But if these NPC's are so much higher than you, before you realise you've been attacked, you're dead. You've lost a whole chunk of XP and if, like me, you fight with a wolf, you're out another 50k to ressurect it, not to mention the XP it's also lost.

I've never been killed by a mob - but I've died many times because of NPC thieves. Even if I try to avoid the usual trade routes and fight well away from the roads, the camels and pack horses cut across country a lot of the time and I still get killed even before I know there's a thief there.

(I also have a grudge against high level players who deliberately drag their NPC thieves into an area with lower level players, throw up a harmony ring and have a good laugh while the NPC's massacre everything that moves! But that's for another thread, I suppose.)

Here's my proposal to Joymax::- Don't you think that thieves should only be allowed to attack traders and not anybody in the vicinity? Or if they can attack you, surely it should only be within so many levels of themselves so's we have half a chance of survival?

I am FURIOUS about this. I've lost so much xp, my wolf has lost so much xp and all these 50k's to res my wolfly chum is providing a strain on the old bank balance.

If you believe, as I do, that the NPC thieves should be modified as suggested above, please add your voice to this thread and maybe Joymax will listen to a whole crowd of seriously angry players who are losing a lot of pleasure in the game by this nonsensical massacre.

All we want is a fighting chance, not to be felled in one blow by an NPC that's been dragged into my corner of the world by a much higher level player.

If NPC thieves are killing you, you're prolly under 52. If you're under 52, 2% is like 10 minutes of playing. When you start getting 4% an hour (WITH a gold ticket), you can complain about the grind.

No, i admit i do it (yeah even at lvl 34) I dont laugh at them, but it does bring a smile to my face. I also res them all the time.

And yeah i still get owned by loads of npc thiefs myself, but figure its just part of the game. And most of the time its my own fault, just pay attention to whatever is happening around you.

don't grind along trade routes and ewhen you see NPC thieves, run. As Cuch said at lower levels that 1% (yes 1%) that you lose from the death to an npc thief is nothing. You probabaly would have gained it back had you been grinding rather than writing this post.

I don't mean to belittle you complaint but it's part of the game, adapt, overcome or leave.

In the not too distant future, thieves will spawn hunters and won't be able to pop you, nor will they be able to use traders to pop other traders, your thieves will only attack your trade vehicle and nobody elses.

Yeah, there's news of a future update here pertaining to what Amps said. But personally, I think it's going to be like a very long time before we see that.


This is off-topic.
I've done the "popping" thing several times myself (as a trader), when i get a thief (especially one with lightning imbue) I do the harmony circle and what do most of those noobies do? They RUN AWAY FROM THE HARMONY CIRCLE! :banghead:

Acording to Mr. Murphy and his laws, the update will only be released by the time everyone that complains about 1* poping have enough lvl to defend him/herself and/or do multistars safely.

cuchulain - agreed. Honestly, just think of it as more time for grind for sp until the new job update comes. Now when u die asnd lsot 2% (30minutes 2with GT and 1 hour without) then yes you can be pissed off

Though...I did chose hunting as my main job because of the stupid NPC thieves killing me at 1x and 2x lol

I was talking about NPC thieves - not player thieves. Capping what the mobs can do is what I was on about.

Yes, I am indeed under lvl 52, spot on.

Strange that a number of people voted "yes" but only the "no's" seem to respond (and spike me about complaining.) More often than not I do indeed leg it outta there at great speed! But - as I stated in my post - even though I stay well away from trade routes, lots of traders go cross country (Glad some of you find it so amusing to see lower levels die. What else are we here for but to entertain you?) and also - as I also stated in my post - you very often don't realise there's a thief there till you're dead.

Have a little compassion for we newer players, please. One day we'll be up there with you and will probably have a black-list of all your names. Mwahahahaha. Ahem. Sorry. All better now. :oops:

Interesting comments, though. And I'll look forward to the update which stops this with eager anticipation. Other than this glitch, I have no more "complaining" to do - except about servers but that's another problem entirely.

They could do something like a level limit for the amount of stars. Something like "Only thieves X levels higher or lower are allowed to attack"

npc thieves arent much of a problem since u can out run em with grass walk (unless the thief is a bower)

Agreed,...do you hear any of them mentioning the thief (or even trader) thats sits just outside south Jangan gate for 2 hrs spawning 60+ thieves on everyone,..completely manipulating, and abusing the system that was given to us,..for their own enjoyment....

Thats right,..don't ever worry about what those 25 or so, lvl 10- 30 players who are pking and having fun want,....just worry about what that one asshole trader or thief spawning npcs on everyone wants,...after all, he earned the right cause he's "high-lvl". My ..... ass hes earned that right. Half the people that lvl botted anyway,...so half the people you defend did not earn that right, or can say they have grinded so hard for so long that now others should give their stupid asses attention whenever they see fit.

I can clearly see that everybody but me has overlooked what your really trying to say,...all worried about trying to defend popping and shit,..wasn't even what the thread was about, but anyway...

btw I voted yes.

and if I spelled anything wrong, bake, save it...i could give a shit.

Off Topic..I believe the game should have a bounty npc where players can put up cash rewards for the ownage of high lvl assholes. Something new to spend gold on...I'm bored.
