So, I've started lurking around in this area putting in my two cents, and now I am wondering...

Do any of you have any formal schooling? Bachelor of Art? MFA? Graphic Design? Or are many of you self taught?

Finished Multimedia education, now Graphic Design. Lot of stuff I taught myself.
And I still suck.

I'm still in school and I am self taught. It's not extremely difficult to learn PS. I think if you have some artistic knowledge or talent and if you enjoy learning ps, you can easily use it.

Need some good tutorials though :)
Im starting to play with PhotoShop a bit atm, (used PhotoImpact before, and modded in-game stuff >.<) i studie Business economics atm, but plan on switching to Graphics Design, only it requires some skill with Photoshop and Flash (Never used flash before, and only have PhotoShop CS2).
Its pretty Fun to learn though ^__^ (slowly and steaddely)

I can't wait until you start learning Flash, then come back on the forums cussing and contemplating suicide because the program drives you crazy.

Actually, Flash is the program I want to specialize in, but damn it pisses me off sometimes. Frustrating to use and become comfortable with, but you can do some truly incredible websites, etc with it.

I've learned flash and visual basic. Its so much easier to make objects/pictures/buttons do things (as long as you know how to code it, which is easy) in Visual Basic rather than Flash.

Possibly true (I took 1 class in visual basic and hated it) but I'm pretty sure Flash >>>>>>> Visual Basic as far as capabilities regarding web design...or just design in general.

The sheer depth of ActionScript (especially 3.0) is amazing. ActionScript 1.0 and 2.0 were designed to be user friendly and easy to use. With more commercialization, Flash has become the web developers dream, and thus, ActionScript 3.0 is a very powerful tool. The learning curve is much higher, but the capabilities are also higher.

For Flash tutorials if anyone is interested....

http://www.kirupa.com
http://www.flashkit.com

Also, for those of you learning new programs, YouTube actually has a ton of tutorials for almost any program, which is awesome. I can only read tutorials for so long and I start to go a little bonkers.

For any doubters out there of the capabilites of Flash(Not saying you are, Crimson) check these websites out:

http://2advanced.com/ ---- This site is AMAZING
http://dreamstudiodesign.com/ ---- Go here and be amazed at the amount of interactivity
http://dontclick.it/ ---- This is just.....interesting
http://www.ekiongfx.com/ ---- My personal favorite. I just love the feel of everything

EDIT: If anyone is needing inspiration for web design, pick this book up at your nearest Barnes and Noble store for only 10 bucks.

http://www.amazon.com/Web-Design-Flash- ... 3822840475

Is a little dated (2000-2005 websites) but the book is very nice, fun to look through, and great to keep for ideas. (...and only 10 bucks!)
