I had some thoughts about this theme like 1 year ago coz i saw an "ugly women" thread somewhere. My basic thought was the impact of the internet on peoples allday life. Essencialy you can get anything on internet, you can see anything on the internet, also if you search for a specific thing, you can find it and so i think, ad's and other things like fashion magazines etc what ppl could describe as cool or awesome warping ppl's standards into a partial surrealistic state novadays. An average man/woman who was average or even cute is now below standards coz you found the best( who is one person from a million, still you make your standards based on the fact, he/she is an existing person out there)
Its a slow running process wich causes a constant ongoing alteration of originaly normal standards, also causes many problems in society coz ppl want to match these examples of extreme beuty or awesomeness also they want the best mostly, even they/we/you have their/our/your limits wich restrain the possible achievments anyone can get.

To me, most internet ppl are ppl that can't get girls. now within he last week I got 3 diff girls numbers 1 gave hers to me and the other 2 I had to ask for. This weekend im going to hang out with all 3 of em (friday, saturday, sunday.) they're verai hot >.<. but anyways what I think to this is people like them on there status also (if there in school) they wouldn't want to date a nerd unless they're a nerd or inbetween like being used by the preppy girls to get answers or whatever, Here doesn't matter to me, cause im at the top of the list so its w/e and I just got back from the 1st girl going to the 2nd girls house in like 10 hours. but enough of my personal life :O
What i'm saying is other then how they are around other ppl (prep, nerd, weird w/e) and then some looks is what people really want... They dont go for personality. but what I go for is personality and looks, and I got 3 hot girls so i=win.
BUT anyways, most people do that love at first sight thing but not at my school so idk just get to know the person become friends blahblah then get their number and gointo actually a deeper conversation :p

Gawd i hate unfaithful pleasure seekers like you. Don't really want to ruin your "happiness",but why can't you get one good girl and spend a little more time with her and with the rest of the time you could go study something and have some free time life for yourself.

I would take a average woman over a top model any day of the week.

I agree with you. But what else is new? People have tried to be more then they are since the dawn of time. Show me the complete exception to those lines and I will give you this strawberry. And if it goes on, it's bound to hit the climax sooner or later. But I say that nobody is free of those influences, nobody. People just need to decide for themselves where they want to draw the line.

lolz yea! guys are considered cool and manly when they have more than one girl they can go out with. if a girl did that she would be labeled as a slut. seems unfair doesnt it?

Personally, I long for the days where "I was a guild leader in 3 different MMOs, including WoW" looks GOOD on my resume. That's right bitches, I'm management material

Seriously guys..
Are we blaming the internet for skinny/slutty teens? Or should we go ask their slutty teen mothers?
Nothing is ever "technology's fault". It's what we choose to do with it, but you have to admit, it's a great facilitator, especially for girls and women with eating disorders. It's a place where they can anonymously blow their obsession out of proportion and create harmful relationships with people who reinforce their negative beliefs. It can be very dangerous for vulnerable people.
But let's be realistic, there are societal pressures on women to be skinny and beautiful. How we internalize those pressures may vary, but it does not make it less real. And you're right, parents aren't powerless to correct their children's behavior, but most parents aren't psychologists. It can be very hard to get through to someone with a genuine psychological issue without seeking professional help.

Sure it is, but it's the way you were tought to deal with and take those things in, that defines the outcome. Pressure is only pressure if you let it be. Ideal sizes are only ideal if you were tought to live by them.

Not just that. There builds a brand new society and this social group isnt related to any irl social group. For me the internet is not fault at anything but the impact on society is enourmous. Using the internet and interacting in online societies amplifies and fastens many processes in social groups(based on age, religions, etc) im not saying its dangerous, but some of these amlified "trends" can be. Also the "parents are responsible" argument is not valid in this scene imho, coz there are too many information sources what can or could influence youngsters in any way. For me, responsibility comes when we are talking about ad's, commercial channels, irl media and thus, internet as a mediator betveen irl and online. (pls dont kill me becoz of my typoos )

That's not always the case. It's easy to say that, but there are a lot of variables that intervene. Confidence in yourself isn't something you can be taught, it's influenced by your own personal experiences in society, which include more than interaction with your parents. The human psyche is much more complicated than the black and white picture you paint.
